This is just a personal preference thing, but I really like how Naomi Kritzer writes the way people text and message each other on social media. There are some shorthand phrases and deliberate breaking of punctuation rules, but not nearly as many as you’d see in real text-chats. There’s just enough that it feels like a text chat while still being easily readable. It reminds me of how they say you should write dialogue—so that it sounds authentic, without being exactly how people talk in real life, because real-life dialogue is messy and boring and most of it can be cut. There is nothing boring about the dialogue in this book.
