Anwar: Nation has no room for clumsy administration
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 1, 2015:
As the world ushers in the New Year, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reminded the nation that it does not have the room to be administered clumsily and without a clear direction.
Anwar, who is also PKR de facto leader, having just returned from his family vacation, said the country should strive to continue being driven boldly, to stand as an independent and democratic country that is based on the Constitution.
Hence, consensus in light of the new year must be fostered, with tolerance and a harmonious relationship between the diverse religions and culture; with a humane yet balanced management of the national Treasury through accountable governance and public administration.
“We can realise this agenda if political will is fostered in society, transcending different political ideologies that clearly have harmed the people.”
In a statement today, Anwar reminded the nation of the importance to reflect on themselves, on their past weakness and the ways to better the future.
He added that 2015 required total preparation with the nation’s economy and socio-politics being the biggest challenges that must be faced together.
“Great hopes are placed on the leaders to ensure the management of the economic sector are tuned to avoid burdening the people.
“The same goes for the government’s commitment, by totally rejecting narrow racial agenda and selective prosecution that can cause an imbalance in the people’s socio-politics and unity.”
Anwar said Pakatan Rakyat and PKR’s commitments were clear and complete, emphasising the need for the country to be managed by a humanistic framework that ensures fairness for all its citizens.
He cited excerpts from a poem by T.S. Eliot which stated “for last year’s words belong to last year’s language; and next year’s words await another voice”.
“We expect a new ray of hope by 2015, despite the challenges waiting at the threshold of the New Year.
“Pakatan Rakyat, in particular, will continue to streamline and enhance efforts to achieve a transparent governance.”
