No one could replace Derek Morgan. Of that, Spencer Reid was certain. It was a fact, undeniable. So he was determined to dislike this new agent, Luke Alvez. It was childish, he admitted, but he had the right to be stubborn and irrational after all he's been through and after losing his best friend. Not permanently, not really but it felt like it when he entered the bullpen and Morgan wasn't there with his charming smile and usual teasing.
Instead, Spencer was met with this annoyingly handsome stranger.
"You must be Doctor Reid." He smiled, friendly and nice and to his horror, Spencer had to fight a smile of his own. "No handshaking, right? Your reputation precedes you."
Spencer was surprised. This Alvez guy was kind and it didn't seem like he was making fun of his aversion to touch, just respected it. That was something unfortunately uncommon and Reid wasn't sure how to react to it.
"Yeah, thank you. Welcome to the team." He said, nodding. He still was determined to dislike the new agent. The fact that he was charming and sweet and so gorgeous didn't matter at all.

Alvez was driving Spencer insane. He didn't know how someone could be so... perfect. He was a gentleman, sweet and funny and he kept nodding along to and asking inciting questions about whatever Reid was on about at the moment. It was strange. People usually thought that his rants were boring or inconvenient, not fascinating.
And apparently, Luke had decided they were friends. He asked Spencer out for drinks after most cases, he always offered rides and he kept invading Spencer's personal space. Garcia agreed with him, that the newbie was more than annoying. Although Garcia seemed to hate Luke, so her opinion wasn't the most objective.
And then Luke started bringing him coffee every morning, just like he liked it. Spencer supposed he could start to tolerate the guy, maybe. Perhaps Alvez wasn't so bad after all.
And then, it happened. It was late and the office was empty. Luke and Reid were the last ones to leave after a particularly hard case. Alvez was on the phone with his mother as they both got into the elevator.
"Si, má. Estoy bien. El caso fue difícil pero logramos resolverlo y ahora estoy yendo para mí departamento." Luke said in Spanish, with a slight accent that Reid found adorable. He forced himself not to react, he didn't want Alvez thinking he was eavesdropping. Although they were next to each other and he could hear each word clearly, it didn't seem like the agent was aware that Reid knew several languages... Spanish being one of them.
"Estoy en el ascensor con ese chico que te conté, má. Si, el que es super inteligente con lindos ojos y bonita sonrisa." Luke chuckled and Spencer looked down, trying not to blush. Luke was talking about him to his mother, and he was describing him with pretty eyes? and with a cute smile? Reid couldn't help but to smile slightly.
"Él está justo al lado mío, má. No, no habla español, sino no te estaría hablando de esto en este momento." Alvez paused for a second and then blushed furiously, Reid wondered what his mother was saying at the other side of the line. "No, mujer. No voy a invitarlo a salir conmigo. No, má. Primero, trabajamos juntos. Y segundo, él es demasiado lindo para su propio bien. Y cuándo te digo que es súper inteligente, no tienes idea. No creo que quisiera salir conmigo, no estoy a su nivel. " Luke murmured on the phone, stealing glances at Reid.
Spencer felt guilty, Luke was obviously talking to his mother in what he felt was a safe place, believing that Reid couldn't understand a word. When in reality, Reid could understand perfectly everything he was talking about. Although, it was about him, so was it really that bad? He tried to justify it to himself.
He couldn't believe that all this time, Luke has had a crush on him. And a pretty big one at that, if what he was hearing was correct. And he was talking to his mother, about how amazing Reid was and how crazy smart he was. Spencer felt his heart flutter at the sweet words, even if he wasn't supposed to understand them.
"Okay, me tengo que ir. Ya estamos llegando al estacionamiento. Te amo, adiós." Luke ended the call, the blush on his cheeks was obvious. "Sorry, that was my mom. She was worried about the case."
"Don't worry about it," Spencer replied, exiting the elevator with Luke beside him. Before both of them went their separate ways, Reid felt like he should say something. "Luke?"
"Yes?"
"Sabes que puedo hablar más de cuatro idiomas, incluyendo el español, ¿cierto?" His pronunciation wasn't the best, but Emily helped him with that every now and then so he's got fairly good at speaking the language. He didn't want to give the guy a hard time, but Reid couldn't help but to smile smugly, trying to suppress the amusement on his voice and failing greatly at it.
"Wha- Wait- Y-you..." The poor guy looked dumbfounded, his mouth slightly open and his cheeks blushed even more if that was even possible. Reid would've felt bad for him if he didn't find all of this so funny. "Please tell me this is a sick joke and you didn't actually understand all of that." He begged, looking pretty embarrassed.
"I'm afraid I did. Sorry." He shrugged but the apology fell short since he was still grinning amused.
"Spencer-"
"I also think you're too gorgeous for your own good, by the way." He interrupted paraphrasing one of the things Luke said to his mom about him. He wasn't sure where all of this came from but he was tired of refusing to accept Luke as a member of the team and of their strange family. He was pretty sure he also had a crush on him and was just denying himself but, after hearing all of the sweet things Luke had to say about him, he couldn't deny it anymore. Garcia would have to forgive him for this betrayal.
"Really? I wasn't sure you even liked me that much. " He tilted his head to a side and frowned, looking confused. Reid thought it looked like a confused puppy and that made him chuckled.
"I mean, I know I haven't been the most accepting. But that's a me problem, with Morgan leaving and all... It's been hard. But you've been great, actually. And you listen to me like you care-"
"That's because I do. I find everything you say fascinating and it amazes me how much you know about everything."
"Enough to tell your mother?" He couldn't help but to tease. Luke giggled and nodded his head, sheepishly.
"Unfortunately, that's not the first time I do that. I've been talking her ear off about you from my first day at the BAU. At this point, I'm surprised she hasn't blocked my number just so she doesn't have to hear my pining anymore." He shakes his head.
"Huh. And here I was, trying my hardest to hate you. I kinda feel like a jerk, now." Reid's smile faded. He could see how immature and mean that was and wished he could turn back time and be nicer to Luke. Maybe accept all of those invitations to drink of the offered rides he always declined.
"Well, I know how you can make it up to me." Luke’s smile shifting from charming to absolutely sultry as he stepped towards Spencer. But then, half a step away he faltered, and the look slipped away into... doubt. "Unless..."
Reid wouldn't even let him finish that thought. They have already wasted too much time. Spencer cut him off with a kiss. Luke hums against his mouth, pulling his lip into his mouth. Reid let his hands creep up the sides of Luke’s bearded face, swiping his thumb over his cheek as he went.
"Cariño," Luke tried to speak, the endearment slipping from his lips without him even realizing it, but all he got from Reid was a growl and a hungry kiss in response.
"Remind me to thank Prentiss for teaching me Spanish all those years ago."
