Reid sees it in Morgan's eyes every time they have a case that involves children; every terrible thing inflicted upon the victims is inflicted in his mind on their hypothetical child. Reid recognises it, because it happens to him too. Years ago, before Morgan, it was enough to convince himself that he couldn't be a parent, and eventually he believed he didn't want to be. And then there had been Morgan, who had confessed in half-sleep of a night that he wanted that, and wanted that with Reid. It had been enough to reawaken that desire in him.
With the knowledge that they both wanted it, but without any firm plans to make it happen, every time a case like this came around it hurt, because it reminded them just how terrible losing a child, or a hurt child was, and it petrified them.
And yet later, even after the toughest cases, when the new 'foster or adopt' television advert inevitably came on during a commercial break, Morgan would still nudge Reid with his knee, and give him a little smile; not a hint, or a plea, just an acknowledgement that one day, they would.
S'More Please - CM Secret Santa gift to GekkyandProud
Derek and Spencer walked through the park hand in hand, laughing as Clooney snapped at the snowflakes slowly making their descent to the cold hard ground. It was colder than usual but both men had wrapped up warmly and the dog was exerting himself bolting back and forth after his Frisbee and chasing what few birds and snowflakes he noticed.
“I can’t wait to go home and make a huge cup of cocoa.” Spencer declared as he brought his gloved hands to his face to try to warm his cheeks.
“We should make s’mores too.” Derek added smilingly. “After we came in from making snowmen and having snowball fights, Mamma used make us s’mores.” He looked at his lover when the younger man didn’t voice his approval. Spencer was just staring at him confused. “Spence, you know what s’mores are, don’t you?”
“Not really. I read about them, aren’t they a food?”
Derek came to a halt and continued to stare at the younger man.
“What?” Spencer was getting indignant.
“I, I just never thought you of all people wouldn’t know what s’mores are. Mr Sweet Tooth. All you ever do is drink sugary coffee and eat sugary snacks, and you don’t know what, Jesus. What sort of a childhood had you at all? Didn’t your dad ever bring you camping, or were you ever in boy’s scouts?” Spencer shook his head. “Right that’s it, CLOONEY!” He called the dog back, and headed straight for the park exit, Spencer’s hand in his as he gently pulled the younger man to their car. Clooney jumped straight into his spot on the back seat and lay down on the warm fleece prepared for him as both men entered the car.
“Derek, where are we going?” Spencer was slightly confused as he asked.
“Home.” Was the only reply as Derek concentrated on not letting the car slid on the icy road.
When they got back to the house, Derek let Clooney out of the car and walked towards the door. Spencer followed apprehensively. When he arrived into the hall, he saw Derek’s hat, scarf, coat and gloves tossed onto the end on the banister, behaviour unlike anything he had ever seen in his neat boyfriend.
“Spence, come into the kitchen.” He tidied both of their coats and other items into the hall closet and followed the requesting voice. When he arrived into the kitchen, Derek had a packet of plain crackers, marshmallows and Hershey’s chocolate on the counter. “Right, what are these the ingredients too?” Derek asked him.
“A toothache?” Spencer smiled jokingly knowing it was something Derek would say if he had asked the question.
“Don’t get smart genius, these are s’mores ingredients.”
“Wait, you actually eat chocolate and marshmallows? You, Derek Morgan? Gym and fitness junkie?”
“Only in s’mores, now, I am going to show you how they are made and you are going to taste what childhood tastes like.”
“Dirty gym lockers and mud, no thanks.”
“Normal childhood, not your childhood Spencer.” Derek commented dryly as he stuck two marshmallows onto a metal skewer and held the over the flame of the cooker. As one hand held the skewer the other prepared a cracker, snapped two pieces of the chocolate, and placed them on the waiting cracker. When the marshmallows browned, he took them off the flame and placed them on the chocolate, using another cracker to hold them in place as he pulled the skewer out. He held the treat to Spencer’s face “Try this” he smiled.
Spencer leant forward and kept his eyes on Derek as he gently bit into the treat. As the mixture of the warm gooey marshmallow mixed with the slowly melting chocolate on his tongue, he moaned, taking the treat from Derek and slowly took another bite, using a long slender finger to catch a bit of marshmallow that fell against his lips.
Derek smiled, curling his hands around Spencer’s lower back and pulling the lithe man against him before bringing their faces close together, snaking his tongue between his lips and against Spencer’s lower one to collect what the other man had missed.
“Yep, I have to say, they’re better than I remember.” His voice barely a whisper as he kissed Spencer on the lips, tasting the mixture of the two sweet foods on them. “I knew you’d like it, I just can’t believe you didn’t know what they were.”
“I’ll have to thank you for educating me.” Was the coy reply.
“Well, well. If that’s the case, I’m going to have to research more sugary sweets for you.” Derek smiled leaning in for another kiss, which the other man gladly obliged.
"S'more Please." Then Spencer laughed. "That works on two levels."

Later, when the team had finished shopping, they all bundled out of the car to greet the boys, but when they got to the door and rang the bell, there was no answer.
“Oh god, do you think something could have happened?” JJ fretted.
“maybe they just didn't hear?” said Morgan calmly, “Garcia, don't you have a spare key?”
“That I do,” she said, fumbling around around in her handbag before pulling out a set of keys. “Try this?” she said, handing the key over to JJ.
JJ unlocked the door and the team tiptoed in, wary that the doctor hadn't answered. There, in the middle of the living room, was a load of sheets, hanging from a string across the ceiling.
Garcia peeked through a gap in the sheets, “awwwwh, guys, you have to see this!” She squeaked, getting out her phone to take pictures.
Spence, Jack and Henry had fallen asleep in their fort, all curled up together, the two boys leaning on the doctor's shoulders, covered by a pile of blankets.
Hotch smiled, “Perhaps we don't have to leave just yet.”
“I'll go make some coffee,” said Will.

Half an hour later, the three had settled themselves down inside a castle of sheets, blankets and pillows.
“All right, I think we need some food now,” Said Spencer, “how about I whip up some popcorn?
“Uncle Spence, can we have some hot chocolate?”
“I think I can whip some up, how about you chose a movie while I go and do that?”
Spencer crawled out of the tent, walked through to the kitchen and started rummaging around in his cupboards, when suddenly, he heard shouting coming from the livingroom.
“It's snowing! It's snowing! It's snowing!”
Spencer peered out the window, and sure enough, little white flecks of snow were floating gently to the ground.
“Can we go play in the snow?” Henry asked, puppy eyed.
“Okay, but lets get you all dressed up and warm”
The boys layered up with coats and hats and scarves, and walked down the corridor, out of the door of Spence's apartment complex and carefully made their way down the stairs, holding on to the rail, with the doctor close behind.
“Hey, try and catch a snow flake on your tongue?”
The boys lifted their heads and stuck out their tongues, giggling.
“Did you know, that snow flakes are actually just tiny ice crystals?”
“Really?” said Henry, eager to learn more.
“Yeah,” Reid continued, “Because as each crystal falls, they go through different temperatures and different humidities, they all form different shapes. Each snow flake is completely different, and there will never be another one like it...well, nearly”.
“At school, we made snowflake shapes by cutting up paper,” Jack beamed.
“That's really cool!” Reid smiled, “maybe you could show me some time”.
The three ran around in the snow for a while, throwing snowballs at each other, before Spencer noticed Henry beginning to shiver.
“Perhaps it's time to go inside,” Spencer said carefully, “I don't know about you, but it's getting pretty chilly”
“Awwh, but I want to stay out in the snow!” moaned Jack.
“I don't think that's a good idea, you might catch a cold, and then I'd be in big trouble!” Spencer teased, “Your dad is my boss, you know! I don't want to get on his bad side. Lets go in and have that hot chocolate”
Part 1 of my CM Secret Santa for whiteshorse
It was a week before Christmas and the team had been given an afternoon off from work to prepare for the holiday. Garcia, JJ and Will and Hotch and Beth had all teamed up to go shopping while Reid babysat Jack and Henry. At first, they had hoped that Garcia would stay behind, but she had declined in order to fulfil her role as 'Fairy God Mother' and 'Giver of awesome gifts'. Derek had come down with man flu and so decided to stay at home and watch movies withClooney and Rossi was preparing for a date. And so, Reid had volunteered himself to look after the boys, declaring it was “no big deal” and that he “could handle the afternoon”.
It was agreed that Henry and Jack would stay at Spencer’s apartment until they were picked up in the evening. Reid was eager to impress the boys, so as they were being picked up from school, he popped out to pick up some DVDs for them to watch and some junk food for them to nibble on.
When the boys arrived, they were bouncy and exited. Despite the age gap, Henry and Jack got on very well, and always loved their play dates, especially when they were accompanied by uncle Spence.
They both ran at Spencer, diving in for a hug, causing him to topple back.
'Hey guys!' he smiled, catching his balance.
JJ and Aron stood in the doorway, grinning at each other.
“Okay boys, have fun, and behave for uncle Spence” JJ cooed.
“Remember, it's Christmas very soon, and you don't want to get on Santa's naughty list,” Hotch teased.
The boys giggled, “okay”.
“Right, the rest are waiting outside in the car, so we better get going. We'll see you later this evening.” And with that, they turned and walked out the door.
Spencer turned to the boys, “what do you want to do first? I rented some movies, I've got..” he paused to take them out of his bag, “..um..the first Harry Potter, doctor who, power rangers, pokemon and..oh! How the Grinch stole Christmas.”
The boys went quiet, examining the DVD, before Jack suddenly had an idea.
“Uncle Spence, can we make a fort to watch them in?” He grinned.
“Hmmm” Spencer mumbled, pulling a disproving face. He couldn't help but giggle as the Henry and Jack hung their heads and frowned. “I'll go grab some sheets” He winked.

Note: I spent so much time trying to think of something to write that I'm running out of time to write it. I meant for it to be much longer, and I'm sorry that it is so short. It's also more of a New Year thing than Christmas, but I figured since Reid's been in the BAU exactly ten years, it was fitting to have him think of his time there. The person I wrote this for apparently likes all and any pairing, and it would have been easy to write Moreid, cause I'm kind of obsessed with them, but I wanted to write something for HER, not for me. So I tried to put a lot of thinking into this, and I really hope it came out all right.
----
Ten years. Had it really been ten years?
Ten years ago, Doctor Spencer Reid had just been brought into the BAU family by Jason Gideon. He had been so young, so shy, so awkward. So many things had changed since. Elle had left. Gideon had left. More recently, Emily had gone, too. At least she still wrote, sometimes. This job had a way of burning you out. One couldn't work at the BAU if they didn't care for people. But caring too much made you break, sooner or later.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
But for all the sadness, for all the hardships, Reid wouldn't dream of doing anything else.
They were a family, and like every family, they had their ups and their downs. Elle was gone, but Spencer still smiled at the memory of her and Morgan's teasing each other back and forth. Gideon had left, but his quiet wisdom helped him through the toughest cases. Emily was on the other side of the pond, but they still talked on the phone and wrote, and she never failed to make him smile.
And Spencer couldn't even imagine what his life would be without Hotch's quiet strength, or Morgan's teasing and encouragements. Where would he be without Garcia's wit, or JJ's caring presence? Who would make him smile to take the bite of the crime scene photos he couldn't ever erase from his mind, if not for Rossi's deadpan humour? And he was slowly getting to know Blake, but from the beginning, he'd found in her a kindred soul, so they had clicked right away.
2013. The new year rang in, and he lifted his wineglass along with the others, wishing them health, wishing them happiness, secretly praying he wouldn't have to say good-bye again, but knowing it was bound to happen at some point.
But for tonight at least, he was surrounded by those who remained and the memories of those who had gone.
And there was nowhere else he wanted to be.
