2019 Nail Trends - Part 1
Nail art is here to stay and the latest New York & London Fashion Shows were glittering with gorgeous designs. I’m always inspired by these trends and love seeing them bubbling up around the world on instagram and other social media platforms before they hit the runway.
Here are some of my favourite looks from recent fashion shows and a step by step on how you can get a little bit of runway nail inspiration yourself ....
Pearl Nails
[Above Images: Elle, Glamour]
Pearls are set to be huge this year, whether it be in the form of quirky hair clips, adorned jewellery or as Fashion Week would have it, all over hands and nails! Nails at Adeam and Fashion East were adorned in a full on pearl-gasm of oversized ivory white pearls while Rodarte & Yuhan Wang took a more subtle approach delicately placing smaller pearls of cream and champagne around not only the nails, but model’s fingers and hands too.
Get The Look
This is a simple look to recreate. All you need is your favourite new spring nail colour (mine happens to be CND Coquette, a gorgeous pastel purple) some nail glue and Pearl Gems. I found my pearls easily on Amazon and Ebay - just type in Pearl Nail Art and loads of options come up. I personally prefer the more champagne and ivory shades to the pure white but it’s up to you.
You’ll need
CND Vinylux Coquette
Pearl Embellishments
Nail Glue
CND Vinylux Gel-Like Effect Topcoat
1. Prep Nails (file into shape, remove excess cuticle and clean with CND Scrub Fresh)
2. Apply 2 coats of CND Vinylux Coquette to the nail allowing time for each coat to dry in between
3. Apply random dots of nail glue all over the nail polish allowing time for the glue to become tacky
4. Adhere pearl gems to the glue
5. Allow to dry fully before topcoating with CND Vinylux Gel-Like Effect
Metallics
[Above Images: Getty, Elle]
Metallic nails are still going strong, but taking on new microtrends! While chrome and holographic powdered nails were still seen (Cividini, 11 Honore and Kim Shui) but new takes on the trend emerged with glitter/foil speckles (Kate Spade), full hands adorned in gold foils (Asai), silver dipped fingers (Kaimin) to ombre blends (Halpern and Chromat) and even more 3D jewel adorned nails (The Blondes, Iceberg)
Get The Look
This look requires a little more time and patience. You’re going to want to get yourself some nail foil - I love the new Rose Gold shade from Lecente , but one isn’t enough and I want the finish to be super metallic so I’m also using Lecente Bright Gold Foil and their Starlight Stardust Glitter. You’ll also need some Foil Glue to help these stick to the nail polish (I love the new Lecente Stick It.)
You’ll Need
CND Vinylux Antique
Lecente Rose Gold + Bright Gold Foils
Lecente Stick It
Lecente Starlight Stardust Glitter
CND Vinylux Gel-Like Effect Topcoat
1. Prep Nails (file into shape, remove excess cuticle and clean with CND Scrub Fresh)
2. Apply 2 coats of CND Vinylux Antique to the nail allowing time for each coat to dry in between
3. Using Lecente Stick It, drain excess glue off of the brush head agains the bottle and then swipe the brush over the nail in random areas. Wait 30 seconds at least or until the florescent appearance of the glue is replaced with a clear finish
4. Once the glue has gone clear use Lecente Rose Gold and Bright Gold Foil scrunched up to create random metallic accents across the nail where you placed the Lecente Stick It.
Tip : I sometimes like to remove a little foil first so that when I tap the foil over the area of the nail I have glued, it doesn’t come out too thick in a large blog - its personal preference but I find this gives a more organic abstract effect
5. Using a small fluffy brush gently tap and brush Lecnete Starlight Stardust Glitter over any remaining areas of Stick It Glue, then using a fan brush remove excess glitter from the nail and areas of skin around the nail
6. Finish with a layer of Vinylux Ge-Like Effect Topcoat
All CND & Lecente Products can be found at UK Distributor sweetsquared.com Please note: These are professional nail products, if you are not a nail professional you may need to find your local CND Shellac Service Provider for CND Vinylux and visit lecente.com for the glitters. Do not try to buy CND products via Amazon/Ebay as you can not vouch for their authenticity and may end up with a counterfeit product detrimental to your health.
2019 Nail Trends - Part 2
Here is Part 2 of my favourite looks from all the recent fashion shows and a step by step on how you can get a little bit of runway nail inspiration yourself ! For Part 1 (Pearls & Metallics) see here.
Negative Space & Pop Colour Blocking
[Above Images: Elle, Glamour, Refinery29 Harpers Bazaar]
It’s not all jewels and shiny things! Many designers opted for a pop of rainbow or primary colours in either negative space or retro shaped designs including House of Holland, Prabal Gurung, Mark Fast and United Colour of Benetton.
Get The Look
This look is really simple. You can either paint your nail in a variety of different rainbow shades, stick to one colour block or go for it with retro shapes and negative space designs. CND Vinylux is perfect for this as it doesn’t require any base coat before application so if you want to tidy up negative space lines with a little nail polish remover and a brush, you won't have to worry about disturbing any polish underneath. I really loved the bright yellow pop nails at Natasha Zinko and the new CND Exquisite is perfect for recreating this look.
You’ll Need
CND Vinylux Exquisite
CND Vinylux Soulmate
Nail Tape
CND Vinylux Gel-Like Effect Topcoat
1. Prep Nails (file into shape, remove excess cuticle and clean with CND Scrub Fresh)
2. Apply two coats of CND Vinylux Exquisite allowing to dry in between
3. Apply Nail tape diagonally across the nail
Tip : Mix it up! You don’t have to follow a symmetrical design - why not make the nail tape different on each nail so the design is even more abstract
3. Using CND Vinylux Soulmate, place the brush head at the base of the nail and swipe across the nail. Allow to dry and follow this step again.
4. Once all four coats of polish have dried finish with CND Vinylux Gel-Like Effect Topcoat
Neutrals
[Above Images: Harpers Bazaar, Elle, Allure]
Neutrals are classic and never go out of fashion. Seen at Staud, Le La Rose, Elie Thari and many more. This seasons nudes range from beige to blush pinks to deep browns and everything in between.
Get The Look
I’m taking inspiration from the neutrals on the runway with a little hint of glitter! Although a simple clean nude manicure is easy to do I really love having a little sparkle on my nail. Jin Soon created some really pretty nails for Tibi using a muted brown and silver glitter. I’m recreating this look with CND’s new Poetry Vinylux and the ever popular Lecente Chantilly Glitter. If you prefer Jin Soon’s silver finish you could use Lecente
You’ll Need
CND Vinylux Poetry
Lecente Stick It
Lecente Chantilly Iridescent Glitter
Nail Tape
CND Vinylux Gel-Like Effect Top Coat
1. Prep Nails (file into shape, remove excess cuticle and clean with CND Scrub Fresh)
2. Apply two coats of CND Vinylux Poetry to the nail allowing time for each coat to dry in between
3. Using nail tape separate of half of the nail on all fingers except the thumb and middle finger
4. Apply Lecente Stick to the lower half of the nail tape ensuring even coverage of the glue. Allow glue to dry
5. Once glue has turned clear, using a small brush gently tap and press Lecente Chantilly Glitter over the glue
6. Using a fan brush, dust off any excess glitter and topcoat the nail with CND Vinylux Gel-Like Effect Topcoat

CND SS18 : Collection Review
Ahhh the new CND SS18 collections have dropped down at https://www.sweetsquared.com/ & http://lovecnd.com/ and they are worth the hype! For those of you who don’t know who CND are - they’re the makers of the one and only CND Shellac.
They’re one of my favourite brands to work with and create products for professional use. If you’re new to the Shellac Manicure definitely book in as it’s one of the best non-damaging long wear products on the market (no buffing of the nail is required and cuticle oil penetrates through the product allowing you to keep your nails in tip top condition!)
Just in time for this gorgeous summery weather here’s my review of the new shades!
CND Shellac Boho Spirit Collection
This new range is all about the boho vibes! 4 super summery shades which together create a sizzling collection! CND suggests creating these very quirky looks with the new range and I am loving the feel of this holiday and boho inspired collection :
Vagabond
Vagabond is a mustard retro shade which goes on quite nude and warms into a gorgeous mustard tone. This is actually my favourite shade from the new collection.
Uninhibited
Uninhibited is a sweet soft peach. Ideal for that inbetween spring / summer time of year. I absolutely love the shade which has a really pretty hue.
Gypsy
Gypsy is a terracotta sort of orange with muted tones. I prefer this to CND’s Electric Orange as it’s just a little softer but still really striking.
Offbeat
Offbeat is a gorgeous new jelly pop red! It’s similar to Lobster Roll but goes on a bit more like a jelly finish. Red is my most popular colour for manicures so I’m excited to have more options !
Below Offbeat with CND Shellac Base Coat / Express 5 Topcoat :
CND Chic Shock SS18 : Vinylux
Chic Shock also launched recently at Sweet Squared (the best distributor of CND products in the UK! ) and this pastel spring inspired collection is beautiful ! It’s worth noting that these new shades have a new revamped Vinylux formula.
Not only is Vinylux a long wearing nail polish but it’s now got nourishing benefits, a caring complex of :
Keratin
Jojoba Oil
Vitamine E
The new formulas also have a revamped Italian designed ergonomic brush for easy application. Win win!
Candied
Candied is a perfect pastel pink. Pretty for spring and summer and creating retro vibe abstract nails!
Taffy
Taffy is a pretty pastel blue!
Gummie
This is a pretty lavender blue tone.
Jellied
Jellied is cool yellow.
My verdict? The new CND /Sweet Squared spring summer ranges are just gorgeous! Another winning collection from one of my favorite brands. If you’re a manicurist I would 100% recommend them to your clients! They’re fun and summery and will brighten up your collection :)
Below I’ve created a little Rainbow Summer manicure using CND Shellac Base Coat/ 2x Coats Grapefruit Sparkle / all 4 shades from Boho Spirit / Express 5 Topcoat and after wiping tacky layer the 4 Chic Shock Vinylux shades applied using the Lecente S1 Brush :
Here’s a clearer image of all 8 shades together (the top row are the Shellac Boho Spirit shades and the bottom row, the Chic Shock Vinylux shades ) :
If you’re looking to get ahold of these shades for your salon/clients you can find them at the official UK distributer for CND https://www.sweetsquared.com/ & http://lovecnd.com/
