Tulip came running up to her father the second he arrived home. âDaddy! Mummy wonât let me have a cookie with dinner!âÂ
âThatâs because you snuck one when I wasnât looking earlier!â Iris shouted back from the kitchen.Â

âItâs Cypress, right?â Elgin asked, not one hundred percent sure that it was him.

Family Dinner || Iris x Cypress
Dear Iris,
Your fatherâs work requires him to be in Elkhorn for a few days after Christmas. I will be coming with him. We will be at your house at 6 on the evening of the 27th for dinner. See you then.
Your mother
Iris stared at the letter, letting it sink in. Her parents were coming. Her parents were coming for dinner. Her mother hadnât even asked if they could come. Just we are coming. Typical. It was just like her parents to demand something rather than ask for it.Â
Then it hit her. On the evening of the 27th...the 27th! Thatâs today! Iris jumped to her feet, groaning. There was so much to be done. The house was still a mess from Christmas. She had no groceries. She didnât even have the slightest idea of what she was going to make.Â
She quickly decided on a meal, grabbed a piece of paper and wrote out a list of things to buy. âGirls!â she called to her daughters. âWeâre going to the grocery store!â She quickly made sure they were dressed before collecting her purse and rushing out the door with the girls.
The rest of the day was spent in a mad rush. Between getting the groceries, cleaning the house, and cooking, Iris was exhausted, but she had to keep going. She couldnât stop now. She madly putting together a nice dessert when she heard Cypress come home from work.Â

âIâve always heard that Colorado is beautiful, but I never imagined it would look like this!âÂ
