"General Qing Liu, the Beast-Tempering Immortal*:
A relatively new god, General Qing Liu is a martial diety most associated with travelers (particularly travel by river), and both tamed and untamed beasts. He is equally renowned for his skill with his curved and for his adeptness at handling conflict between humans and yaoguai, or other sentient nonhuman creatures.
Charms blessed by a Qing Liu temple are favored for swift journeys and as wards against becoming lost or encountering dangerous wild animals. They are not a god directly associated with wealth, but remain popular with merchants and travelers anyway because of these qualities. They are also prayed to for the health and safety of pets and livestock- guardian portraits of him can be found in some barns, pens, and stables to ward away potential predators. Qing Liu Jiangjun strongly objects to offerings of live animals or pelts and parts; being the cause of an animal's demise simply for pride or to win favor is unacceptable to the god. Hunting for food or clothing is one thing, but he takes issue with ending a life for any notion of "glory" and not respecting the beast enough to make use of it after.
She is additionally worshipped by a surprising number of yao and spiritual beasts as well, due to her willingness to intervene in their favor when so many others do not. The god has been known to protect yao and monsters from unwarrented human persecution, and is notably reluctant to kill inhuman opponents if a more peaceful solution can be found, such as relocation or mediation. Animals that practice cultivation may also pray to him for guidance and success in their tribulations, as many believe he ascended as a beast as well as a man, or that he was simply never human at all. Icons of him as known by yao and spiritual beasts are more typically in the form of a dragon with rabbit-like features, clutching a blade in one forepaw and a pearl enveloped in swirling currents in the other.
*Qing Liu (jiangjun) is Jia Yongtao's general title as a martial god, while the moniker "Beast-Tempering Immortal" is a more nonspecific address used by both their human and inhuman worshippers. It references the story of their ascension, which involved subduing a dangerous jiao, but the title has a distinctly different meaning among both factions of their believers."
