WIP: Custom Skill Mod(s) (Progress Note 2)
Published: 10-13-2025 | Updated: N/A
SUMMARY
What do I have planned for the future? The list is...never ending and ever growing...how much of it will get done/uploaded and when is the million dollar question.
I have a lot of WIPs (“works in progress”) and hope to get some new sections of the site open. There will (of course) be plenty of business, build mode, and hood deco things as I get my lost-but-now-found futurist save up and running. I plan on updating some ANIMs (animations), text strings and collection files on older sets as well. I’ve got some ambitious plans for custom skills/traits. So as far as mods go, let me just say….tell your sims to save room for me in their inventories. *cackles in BHAV edits*
CUSTOM SKILL PROGRESS!
The learning curve for the type of BHAV coding I need to do is not as steep as it was at the beginning of the year...but there is still lots to do/test. I hope to have the first mod(s) out this winter. Here is the latest on that...
1. Unique properties can be assigned/tracked to a single token so instead of 170+ tokens, we'll likely end up with 20-ish (i.e. 20-ish OBJs...not 170+). I'm planning one token for each “skill tree” (i.e. a culinary token for all cooking/food related skills). This let’s you discard skill-related stuff you don’t use.
2. Custom skilling is possible for cats/dogs on a limited basis - the testing is going okay so far! Hopefully, Fluffy will be able to hunt, forage, and more for perks!
3. I'm planning just 2 REQUIRED objects for ppl who need to conserve OBJ counts - the skill token, and either the skill book (study/teach all skills in a single group) or skill board (to study/teach all 170+ skills - likely a 3t2 or 4t2 whiteboard).
4. Custom skills should build faster than normal/default skills since they’re extensions of those. Custom skills unlock based on how many default skill points you have – look at the (planned - not final) cooking skill progression:
cooking 01 = foraging
cooking 02 = canning, juicing
cooking 03 = homestyle cooking
cooking 04 = herbalism, alchemy
cooking 05 = baking, soul food
cooking 06 = confectionery, nectar making
cooking 07 = juice fizzing
cooking 08 = mixology
cooking 09 = gourmet
cooking 10 = gastromancy
This is ONLY the number of cooking skill points needed to unlock the rest of the Culinary tree – you do NOT, for example, have to master herbalism BEFORE baking, juice fizzing, or soul food…herbalism is just easier to unlock. Each custom skill has its own 10-point scale of difficulty/perks.
*all images in this post are testing/mock-up images - nothing is finalized yet.
