Bag of Bones
lord huron really has some of the best characters of all time, i cannot get enough of them
among others, we have:
guy who went on a dangerous hero's journey to find his missing fiancee. the fiancee dumped him and he does not realise this until after he's almost died several times.
fortune teller who freely tells previous clients that she's a scammer and just spouts bullshit. she may actually be psychic and just not know it.
corpse that decided the afterlife was boring so he just stopped being dead and got up out of his grave before he could finish being buried, scaring the shit out of the man burying him.
head of a city planning and development corporation who, in his attempt to kill a landowner in an "accident" to take his land and build stuff there, inadvertantly created an undead eldritch abomination that is after his ass specifically.
They never did find the man who formed the gang. Rumors that he went into hiding, that he surfaced on the darkest of nights, continued to persist over the decades.
But they were certain of one thing - those young men and women were always fearless, always fighting. And there were pockets of Los Angeles that no masked, armed men ever dared to poke their noses into unless they wanted to bleed for their trespassing.
My secret santa isn't on Tumblr, but I wanted to share what I created! I was given four prompts and I decided to combine them all into a triptych. This work features characters from The Stranger, Cobb Avery, Roy Casey, and Huron and Blaquefut! I had so much fun being a part of the Lord Huron Secret Santa this year.
Johnnie feels like he’s floating in space. He can’t see anything, only the vast expanse of the void. Come to think of it, he can’t really feel anything either. He’s not sure what that means, but he knows it’s probably not good. His mind is sluggish, struggling to remember what happened. A voice rings out from the void around him.
“You’re an idiot.” Wow, harsh, but not new information. “What the hell were you thinking?” What was he thinking? The last thing he remembers was getting jumped by two randos. He thinks one of em hit him on the head. Might explain the loss of memory.
“You got black-brained, that’s why you can’t remember nothin’.”
Huh. Well, that also makes sense, he supposes, as memories come rushing back. He had only wanted to help out. Alex had seemed so stressed the past few weeks. He figured getting in on the Vide Noir trade would help, not to mention that it would make a helluva lot more money than anything else they run.
“Yeah, and look how well that worked out. You ended up dead on the side of the road.” He’s dead? Duh, of course he is. Black-brained. He tries to clear the remaining fog in his mind. If he’s dead, how is he still talking to whoever this is?
“You might be dead, but something has a grip on you. My guess’s it’s the same thing that brought me back. You just gotta decide why. What’s stoppin’ you from dyin’?” Johnnie pauses. Death sounds incredibly boring. An eternity of whatever this void is? He’d go insane. How does he wake up? His eyelids feel like cement.
“I don’t have the answers for ya, kid. You gotta have a good reason. You got yourself into this mess, how are you gonna get yourself out of it?” The voice pauses. “There’s a car coming down the road maybe a few miles from here. I can see the headlights. Figure it out or you might miss your chance.”
Johnnie knows who the voice is, now. He considers Cobb’s words as they seem to echo through the void. He doesn’t want to spend an eternity here if this is what the afterlife looks like. An infinite void stretching on forever. He tries his damndest to open his eyes, to move an arm, something. He stops when he feels a breeze. He hears the screech of tires, and a car door opening. Footsteps crunch on the blacktop.
He can hear thunder rolling in the distance and excitement builds in his chest. This is his chance, he thinks. The one Cobb was talking about. He feels a pair of hands grab his shoulders and drag him awkwardly. With a surge of energy, he tries again to move. His hand twitches as he explodes back to life, shoving the person off of him.
“Alright, hands off me, bub!”
Backup secret santa for @kiwivskiwi !! I hope you like this! This takes place right before Buck comes across Johnnie. Cobb gives Johnnie that extra push to come back to life, spurring him on.
I think Cobb Avery would've really liked classical music before the Endering
Source? Uhhh the afwp The World Ender goes into 3/4 at the bridge. And also IDK not dead yet has an orchestra. It was revealed to me in a dream.
so sorry cobb
