Coco Tour - Bathing In The Sun

In the Netherlands, Utrecht-born artist Faberyayo (Pepijn Lanen) is one of the big names in modern Dutch pop culture. He changed Dutch hip hop values with the prizewinning rap group De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, made French-house bangers with art collective LeLe, received great acclaim for his solo debut album ‘Coco’ and is just signed by Dutch publisher Lebowski to write his first book. The artistic potential of the versatile Faberyayo seems boundless, and I’m happy to see he’s broadening his market with his latest project, Coco Tour.

Coco Tour is, as the name suggests, continuing the style of the album 'Coco'. Working with the same producer, Benny Sings, and musicians Tim Dudek and Falco Benz, Bathing in the Sun has got the same summer holiday vibe. Using a vocoder Faberyayo sings about an ‘indoor holiday’, accompanied by a laid-back beat and some Hawaiian-style keys. The video shows what an indoor holiday is like, but more importantly indicates what Faberyayo’s style is about. While he’s producing great pieces of art, he condemns the pretentiousness of other artists and refuses to take himself too serious. To me, this is a mentality that deserves praise and should be more common: I’d love to see Coco Tour go international.
