Aiello: *pushing Stiles and Daniels forward with Zussman*
Happy Birthday Nancy Turner (Pierson)!!!
Left Vietnam Nance
Right WWII Winter Uniform
"She lost her brother, she lost a unit of men, she has lost whatever speck of innocence she can hold close to her heart– all because of war. War she admired and was disgusted with, war that changed her to being the person she is today, war an endless cycle of life and death and she is both."
Nancy: Please say words of encouragement to me so I don’t murder someone right now.
Joseph: There are no books in prison.
Nancy: *sighs* Thank you.
A Siblings Breakdown
[Nancy Turner]
Snow fell delicately, little fragile flakes landing on each surface of the forest. Nancy Turner stared at the cackling fire Daniels had built mere hours ago, their supplies dropped on the snow covered ground as Zussman tended to their wounds. Pierson had ventured off with a canteen he had stolen from a German's belt pouch, and no doubt it was filled with some German alcohol. If she weren't frozen in shock, Nancy would have commanded that he share the rare drink with her.
Her heart beat in a slow rhythm, her hands caked in dried blood and dirt and were turning pale with the cold air. Her eyes remained focused on the flames, invalid of any emotion and it concerned her teammates greatly. It was something dealing with a enraged Pierson, but it was something different and possibly dangerous when dealing with a quiet Nancy. Stiles had tried talking to the woman, only for her to remain quiet and stare ahead at nothing.
They knew what she was thinking, they knew what was running through her mind and it only further threw them into a ditch of depression. They gave Nancy her space, guilt ridden and empathic. Nancy felt the wall she had build break, her mind racing but feeling so empty and there was a pit in her stomach. Her baby brother was gone, her only family left. Her baby brother, her dearest Joseph, gave his life for her.
"It should have been me! I'm older! I'm stronger! Not my baby..." Nancy shook her head, a pressure in her eyes, causing her vision to blur. She lost the war, she had failed and her whole facade finally fell as she let the hot tears run down her cold cheeks. Her baby brother was gone.
"Captain?" She hurriedly wiped away the stray tears, nodding her head for the young soldier to continue. "I...I know how you feel, when you lose someone. Joseph, he's a good man, never once judged me. I'm sorry." There was a shuffle behind her, and it went quiet. Turning around, she watched the back of Robert Zussman sulk away back to Daniels and her heart felt like it had tightened up, it had curled up like how she desperately wanted to. But she couldn't. She had more boys, more kids to take care of. And she'll be damned if she loses another.
"For you, Joseph. I love you."
With that final goodbye, Nancy Turner stood up, dusted off the snow and dirt off her uniform and turned to face her teammates (whom were all huddled together). As she ventured off to lay commands, a carved oval piece of wood was left behind with a pistol. Engraved on the peoce of wood was:
Joseph Turner, 1913 - 1945
Loving brother, son, and father. May You Either Rest or Fight.
