“If we did try again, I’d need at least some kind of…I don’t know, reassurance? That it’s not going to go to shit again. But if you need closure on this, on us…” She didn’t really know what to say, how could she? It wasn’t really his fault either, injuries sucked for anyone and maybe..it was just the situation that had ruined things. Maybe they COULD try again and be better this time.

It wasn’t like he had meant to make things complicated, but when he was forced to take a long break with the injury, he’d closed himself off to the world, her included. Things had been great and for a long time, he’d gotten used to that comfort of the relationship, but being away and forced to listen to his own thoughts, he’d always assumed she’d grow tired and move on. That hadn’t been the case, though, and being the way that he was, he’d pushed her away in spite of that feeling. She could do better and he always assumed that his time with her was borrowed. Why shouldn’t she find someone better? Someone unbroken like he was? And when he returned, he found himself sitting on eggshells, watching her go through the motions until finally he couldn’t stand the silence any more. He stood in front of her now, completely open and asking for something-- anything. “I don’t want.. I don’t-- What I’m tryin’ to say is.. I’m sorry. I should’ve been better at this and I know I hurt you, but it wasn’t what I was tryin’ to do. I just thought you should leave me to rot, y’know? I got sick and I had to stay out a lot longer than I thought I would.. Didn’t think you’d wanna stick around for all that. If anythin’.. I’d just want to know that you’re happy.. If you were.. I’d be fine. I’d.. leave you alone..”
