This super cute sugar can I made from an empty coffee can ✨

Gray and white contact paper and a pretty piece of gold, glitter ribbon is all it took. I drink a lot of coffee, so I’m using the empty cans to make some cool, new stuff for around the house.

Next up: flour cans, snack cans, bean cans, noodle cans, cereal cans...who knows!? 🤟 it already had that silver, plastic lid with it, so that’s pretty cool.

Coffee Can Leprechaun Hats!

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, so I thought it would be fun to do this cute project using tossed out coffee cans!  

I took these 2 coffee cans that my husband tossed out...

...and decided to turn them into Leprechaun Hats that I can use as décor in my dining room!

First, I turned the cans upside-down and covered the top with green glitter like this...

I simply spread a little glue on the top and shook on the glitter!

Next, instead of painting the cans, I decided to use this ‘peel & stick’ wallpaper (it was leftover from another project) and wrap the cans in it!

I think the wallpaper gives the hats a unique appearance....different from traditional St. Patty designs.  

While the glitter was drying on top, I painted these 2 wooden circles that I got in the craft department at Walmart...

These circles will be the hat brims, and I painted them a traditional green... 

The paint is still wet in the pic, but it dried nice and even!  As the green paint dried, I made a buckle to go around the hats with gold & black glitter paper.  I simply cut a gold strip and glued it on....

Then I used black glitter paper to make a square...and I put a smaller gold square in the middle of the black square for an added dimension....

....and I glued it onto the gold band like this:

Funky!

Once everything on the can was completely dry, I used super glue to stick the wooden circles onto the bottom of the cans.  I let it dry for 5 mins, and then they were done!  

And here’s what they look like in my dining room!

But the best part was the cost! The total cost of this project was only $2 (for the wooden circles)!  I already had the other supplies (paint, glitter, wallpaper, etc.).  If you do a lot of DIY or crafting, you’ll probably have those things too...but items like craft paint or glitter can easily be bought for around $1 at Walmart.  I did use wallpaper for this project, and I realize that not everyone has wallpaper lying around, but a good substitute is contact paper (the kind you put on your kitchen shelves/drawers).  You can find contact paper for $1.25 at the Dollar Tree...and it’s ‘peel & stick’ too!

And, as always with refurbishing, you should definitely look twice at something like a coffee can before throwing it out. You could turn it in to something amazing!

Why throw such handy cans away? When you can make something entirely fabulous from them! Like this cute, hand painted firefly can you see here 🎨

It comes with a silvery-gray, plastic lid, which makes it perfect for storing or display. Also, because it’s a coffee can, whatever you put in it is gonna stay fresh 🙂
