this week i am performing an Experiment
i’ve known for a while that caffeine doesn’t give me energy (which is pretty common for people with adhd) but it seems inconsistent whether it simply relaxes me a bit or makes me completely drowsy to the point where i can barely keep my eyes open
the caffeinated drinks i have regularly aren’t consistent but aren’t different enough that i think they’d have wildly different caffeine levels
my hypothesis is that it might be related to the time of day i have the caffeine—the few times it’s made me entirely drowsy have been about 4pm or later
so this week i’m making the same exact cup of basic coffee (with nothing but creamer) at different times of the day and taking notes every 30 minutes on how i’m feeling
here’s today’s notes
Monday / 9:30
- it was Too Hot so i actually began drinking at about 9:45
- finished in 5-10 minutes
- 10:00—feeling a bit calmer. brain isn’t silent like when i listen to brown noise but is noticeably quieter than usual. no drowsiness
- 10:30—definitely a bit of drowsiness but not as much as sometimes. brain is even more quiet, eyelids are a bit heavy. almost feels as though there’s a “fog”? not exactly brain fog—not having difficulty thinking or processing anything. the usual chaos and noise just feels muffled or clouded in some way
- 11:00—drowsiness has lifted and fog is less noticeable, but my brain is still quiet. very nice—this is pretty much exactly where i want my brain to be if i’m using caffeine for this purpose
- 11:30—drowsiness fully gone. fog is barely noticeable. brain still quiet—very similar to last log. maybe very slight headache? i can’t tell
- 12:00—no more fog. Similar to 10:00 log
- 12:30—no change
- 1:00—no change
- 1:30—brain slightly less quiet but not significantly so
- 2:00—no change
- 2:30—less of the relaxed feeling—safe to say i’m feeling back to normal
