Coffee Gallery, 2029 Lake Ave, Altadena, CA 91001, Score: 39/50
I visited the Coffee Gallery a few times, since it was a good place to camp – but I hadn’t been there recently. It looked different. New owners have taken over, expanded the kitchen, and improved the place. It’s still a popular camping and community spot. They have live music nights.
Score: 39/50
Food: 4/5 – The old Coffee Gallery did not have a kitchen. This one does. And they cook omelettes, breakfast burritos, Belgian waffles, and paninis to order. There’s a breakfast and lunch menu. They also have soups, salads, and better looking pastries. Prices have gone up too. The Plain Jane burrito ($5.99) was hot and filled with potatoes, scrambled eggs, and cheddar cheese – yum. But it did taste like sausage, so if you’re vegetarian, you might want to be careful ordering. They have Fosselman’s ice cream, shakes, floats, and banana splits.
Coffee: 4/5 – Better than what they used to have! But they didn’t have foam art. They do have interesting lattes like CBD, rose, and turmeric.
Wi-fi: 4/5 – Free, unlimited, secure. I was connected at first and then it kicked me off.
Ambiance: 4/5 – Some of the worn in, old Coffee Gallery remains. The tables and chairs don’t match and they have a cute community room. The ceiling is exposed. They added a lot of lights and painted one wall black. It’s comfy.
Noise: 4/5 – Relaxing music like Frank Sinatra
Plugs: 5/5 – Plugs everywhere
Parking: 4/5 – Park in the neighborhood as long as you want. There are a few 30 minute spaces.
Comfort: 4/5 – Some chairs are padded, some aren’t. Most of the tables are small. It’s comfy – people stay for a long time!
Bathroom: 3/5 – One unisex way in the back
Art: 3/5 – I think the art is for sale.
Tips: Day old pastries are discounted. There’s a loyalty program. It might be hard to find a table. $5 credit card minimum.

A nearly empty coffee shop is a nice place to be.
Iced vanilla frappe topped with a single shot of espresso ...such a nice combination.
