The Tin Candle Holders Part I
So, I’m taking my next refurbish in a totally different direction...
One of the goals I’d hoped to achieve early this year was possibly refurbishing a sideboard (aka: Buffet) for my dining room. Well, this is one of the rare times that I’ve decided to purchase a new item rather than refurbish one.
A couple of reasons for this....1- it was almost impossible to find a sideboard that fit the width/height I needed...and 2- I was on a bit of time-crunch to find one. I do a lot of hosting/entertaining throughout the year, and I have birthday parties/other events coming up (that hopefully will happen), so I really need a sideboard!!
Well, since I bought a new sideboard, I figured that it would be a lot of fun to refurbish some decor that I can display on it. That’s where the Tin Candle Holders come in. Made from tin cans and a little spray paint, these can add a nice festive look to any day (or holiday)!
If you’ve never seen one, they look something like this (I didn’t make these. Check out this website. https://www.auntannie.com/PartyDecorations/TinCanCandleHolders/ )...
My candle holders are going to be a little different.... I’m using coffee tins tha range in size. Here’s a pic of the coffee tins I’m using:
And I’m going to have a Valentine theme with heart/arrow designs!
So, the first step is fill the cans with water and freeze them overnight...like so,
(into the freezer)...
Let me explain... Freezing them will make the next step easier. The next step is to draw a special stencil using a system of dots (you’ll see it in my next post) and wrap it around the can. Then, using a hammer and nail, I will hammer a hole into each dot on the stencil. This will form the design. Having the cans full of ice simply helps them hold their shape while I’m hammering.
This seems like a good place to leave off today....we’ll get to the stenciling tomorrow!
