Went on a walk this morning and stopped at our favorite ocean lookout spot to record my weekly #CoffeeCollective video (my little weekly FB live about life, connection, and finding hope amidst craziness). The topic of today's video was finding joy in the little things. Authenticity is — and should always be — at the forefront. ⠀ ⠀ Several weeks ago I partnered with @yourbrandista to create an informative, engaging, and creative workshop that dives into all the essential components of public relations + content writing. [You can find it on the @bealightcollective website].⠀ ⠀ Our goal, whether you're in the beginning stages of your business or ready to take your brand to the next level, was to offer invaluable insight for how to grow with purpose + alignment.⠀ ⠀ And at the core of this is authenticity.⠀ ⠀ As I reflect on what authenticity looks like in a time of post-pandemic instability, political unrest, and pressing racial discourse, I am focusing my attention on contributing content of value and challenging myself to think more critically about the world we live in and the content we consume.⠀ ⠀ As you think about your own brand, business, or even posts, I implore you to ask yourself these questions before sharing: "What value does this have?" "What purpose does it serve?" "Is it credible? Egocentric?" "What is my reasoning?" And with that, also as yourself what authenticity means to you, especially in a time where each and every one of us is challenged to think about what we stand for, and perhaps even more importantly HOW we're going to be active in that support.⠀ ⠀ Last Saturday during my #coffeecollective [a Facebook live 'virtual coffee date' series I created 12 weeks ago to offer connection during quarantine] I asked myself + listeners to think about the people they follow and the content they consume.⠀ ⠀ There is something to be said for bringing in + surrounding yourself with things and people that uplift you BUT there is also value in following and engaging with people who think differently — that is where true change + growth begins.⠀ ⠀ At the core of everything, though, is authenticity. 4 Things I've Learned In My Little Life Journey: ↓⠀ ⠀ 1. There are things you're meant to do and you have to trust yourself to follow them.⠀ ⠀ As I've grown my business @bealightcollective over the past year, I'm no longer afraid to share about the good and bad, to level with you about the difficult parts, and to show the behind-the-scenes of building something from scratch.⠀ ⠀ I'm no *expert* but what I've learned is that each and every one of us has something we're called to do. Sometimes the journey to figuring that out takes SO LONG and we feel like we have no idea who we are. And sometimes we head down one road only to turn back and start over. And this is okay.⠀ ⠀ But if there's something you feel really excited about or just feels *right,* you have to trust yourself to go after that — no matter what.⠀ ⠀ 2. Life, I'm learning, is so much about the energy we put in and absorb. ⠀ ⠀ We can go through our days assuming the worst in people and circumstances and focus on what's falling apart — or, we can remind ourselves that everything around us is in process. (Even us).⠀ ⠀ 3. Love won't be easy, but it doesn't have to be hard.⠀ ⠀ I always thought love was this challenging, difficult thing. And don't get me wrong, love isn't easy by any means. But when you're with the right person, when you've found a love that's bigger than the surfacey, superficial things of this world, you'll realize that although it's not easy, it doesn't have to be painful.⠀ ⠀ 4. Sometimes the scariest things are the best things to lean into.⠀ ⠀ I spoke about this in last week's #coffeecollective (virtual coffee dates I'm hosting on Facebook Live during the quarantine) — that we need to do one thing each week, big or small, that scares us. For me, it was recording a 3-part meditation series (in my stories under the "For You" highlight). Then it was hosting a live workshop with @IFundWomen. ⠀ ⠀ I've been pushing myself to go beyond the boundaries of my *normal.* And I want to encourage you in this, too. ⠀ ⠀ 5. You have to find a balance.⠀ ⠀ A balance in what you hold onto and let go of, in work and play, in following your head and your heart. And this balance must be your own.
