“Coffin Scrape”
This track is also a bit of an outlier on the tracklist in that it’s got a little bit of a death metal and thrash metal vibe in some of the riffing and drumming, as well as the vocals, albeit it’s mid-tempo.
There was a bit of influence from old 80’s thrash bands in some of the guitar parts as well as more modern thrash and crossover in the final segment of the song. Power Trip was a notable influence on this one.
The lyrics are about going to a funeral for a sudden, tragic death, specifically the death of one of my uncles. It’s an event I’ve written about before, but this song deals with the aspect of visiting a funeral home with an open casket, and how such a thing can inspire one’s own fear of mortality.
The solo on this one was performed by my cousin Aleister Blackwood, who is also from my hometown. I knew he’d be a perfect fit for this track and he certainly delivered.
