Hello all. Hoping you are well and enjoying the nice warm weather, and were not affected by the awful storms. Here in Exning we managed to miss them, and have had days on end of glorious sunshine, but I have been thinking ahead to making bits and bobs for the Autumn, and think this yarn is about to make its way en masse to my stash in preparation for all of the warmy cuddies that will hopefully be soon hanging from my hooks.
I do tend to like Sirdar Yarns, and this is no exception. This particular mid priced yarn (from £2.99, 27 shades at Wool Warehouse) seems to be quite nice, no scratchy bits, and has an almost fluffy matte texture to it. It works up quite fast, and makes quite a warm and surprisingly stretchy fabric, very good for Autumn/Winter projects such as the cardigans I have been making over the past few days.
This is a yarn that I use quite a lot, and is fairly “safe” and reliable for most projects. By that I mean that it washes well, (at 40c, I do not wash yarns at any higher) with normal washing powder, and will withstand the tumble dryer on a low setting. The wash/dry cycle also serves to block the yarn, which will fall nice and even once it has had a cycle.
There is nothing delicate about this yarn, (as with most Arans that I have come across) so it’s best used for the less frilly things, and makes a perfect chunky poncho or Coggy, and is especially good for making beanie hats with it’s thick but soft stretchy loveliness.
