wait hi op of that dgs castlevania post here. do you have any sources saying that CV was a specific influence for nuri? (/gen) cus ive always suspected it (wine glass throw lol. and alot of barok's concepts looking either like a weird sephiroth-alucard fusion) but ive never found an official looking source that said it. i would love to see it lol ive been reading a few of nuri's interviews to find something like that
Okay, just spent a good ten minutes trying to find the source, because ten minutes ago I would have sworn I read somewhere that Nuri cited Castlevania as a source of inspiration and uh, while I didn't not read a line of text mentioning Castlevania in relation to DGS (Barok's wiki page, the trivia section, had a "his wine-throwing habits were likely inspired by Symphony of the Night" note, circa 2021, courtesy of the Wayback Machine, but this note did not have citation which is probably why it not longer exists in the trivia section on Barok's wiki page).
But insofar as I can tell, Nuri's only mentioned vampires (alongside werewolves and shinigami) as design inspirations (in an interview linked on the aforementioned wiki page, but also some of the text in the artbook mentions vampires, in the first paragraph at the bottom of page 72). So vampires yes--a definite inspiration. But it turns out I was misremembering Castlevania specifically being cited as a direct inspiration.
I guess I just made the assumption based on Barok's final design being so similar to Castlevania's Dracula design (or Ayami Kojima's designs for Dracula at least), and seeing Castlevania mentioned once on a wiki page that I saw...literally ages ago bc I haven't really been on the wiki to read articles in a good 3-4 years. It seems my memory just filed everything together into one non-existent "fact" for me to cite incorrectly, whoops.
