Send 💑 for a first kiss.
It’s a buoyant atmosphere in the village for the harvest festival, music and laughter everywhere as the community comes together for the celebration. There’s food and drink aplenty set up in the field near the church as the local children chase one another around among the tables and their family members.
Essie’s own offering of thanks had been left behind at home before her family had left to attend the festival - bread and milk safely tucked onto the kitchen windowsill - and since she’d arrived, she’s perhaps had a touch too much to drink, pleasantly tipsy as she moves through the party. It doesn’t take much convincing for her friends to pull her into a dance.
Eventually, her drunken state makes her head spin too much to continue dancing and she has to excuse herself, a few unruly locks of hair escaping from her bun. Moving to the edge of the field away from the main festivities, she takes a seat atop a nearby wall to catch her breath.
“Having fun?”
Looking up, she can’t help but smile as she sees Sweeney leaning against the wall beside her. She hadn’t even realised he was there until he spoke, and perhaps he had just appeared out of thin air.
“Didn’t think I’d see you here.”
“Ah, y’ couldn’t keep me away from a party even if you tried, lass.”
She can’t help but laugh at that, making him smile at her amusement. It’s good to see him here, even if she hadn’t expected it. Suddenly, emboldened by her inebriation, she leaned closer, taking hold of his shirt to pull him towards her so she can press her lips to his.
It’s not her first kiss, (she’s had sweethearts before), but there’s something wonderfully different about kissing Sweeney. Perhaps it’s the fact he’s not human that makes it feel so strange - good strange though - and as she pulls away, she thinks for a moment she can taste cream on his lips, idly wondering if by the time she returns home there’ll be an empty bowl on the kitchen windowsill.
“Consider this an extra thank you,” Essie smiled softly, cheeks flushing at her sudden impulsiveness, “From me.”
