Shadow's read books, more than he can count, because that's how he grew up - something heavy in his hand because it was there, and there was no reason for it not to be. Sometimes he wishes he'd kept up book releases; maybe there's something out there, something that twelve or fifty year old people are reading, it could have one line on the subject maybe. The subject of being the son of a God. What was that, a Demi-god, right? Yeah, that's the one. 

At least things make sense now. Sweeney's coin trick, the dreams, the snow; oh god the snow, the way it had piled high and followed Shadow near everywhere since.  

Pressing a penny into his palm before moving it in a way that made it seem as if he had dropped it, Shadow tucked the piece of copper away, not bothering to look in the direction of the person now sat beside him. The place was empty, a bunch of seats to choose from, after all.
