War Garden by Cold Beat
5/17/21.
I’m not going to lie...part of me has a “I found Tony Jay first!” mentality. I did (check out 9/29/18). But after I get over my own ego, I realize how much Tony Jay (San Francisco) has changed since that 7″ single. While the band still possesses a great jangle sound, the speed of their jangle has slowed down.
Additionally, Michael Ramos (Tony) is working with is working with Karina Gill (Cindy) and this may have tempered Tony’s sound to a Galaxie 500 speed. He’s apparently working with Hannah Lew (Cold Beat, Grass Widow) which means Tony Jay is officially the next big thing.
His cassettes are released by Paisley Shirt Records (San Francisco). I’m declaring this label the next big thing as well. Please hold me to this.
The Mayor of Wife City for Thursday, February 27, 2020 is Hannah Lew

Aside from lo-fi noise pop project Grass Widow, singer songwriter Hannah Lew is also involved in a project named Cold Beat, also set in San Francisco. And that project happens to be preparing to release a new full length. The lead single from Chaos By Invitation is a gazey synthpop meets gauzy rock fluttterer named 62 Moons. The song orbits about us with ever rippling, nostalgic strumming animation. Cold Beat’s new album Chaos By Invitation arrives on April 7th via Crime On The Moon. There seems to be a lot of lunar love going on.
