Weird & Wonderful Wednesday
Okay, so, for me, I think that we’re far enough away from the depths of 2020 for this to be readable. But, a warning, your milage may vary, and, there is always the TBR list.
Six archeologists are in Greenland to find traces of lost Viking settlements. Except, as they get going trying to unearth the past, the present rears its ugly head and the news comes that there is an epidemic raging back home (US, England, and Scotland are where they’re all from). Add to that the fact that while they start their dig in the Arctic Summer, well, summer doesn’t stay year round, especially in the Arctic, and, suddenly they’re staring down the barrel of Arctic winter, which they are not quite prepared for.
It was an intense book, and it was done in an interesting way too. Each of the six characters had a part of the book in their first person, so, we got to see everything unfolding in different ways. As I said, intense, but, really good too!

Asleep in the Deep
October brings visions
Leaves falling on caskets
The dead sleep underground
Roots for veins
Mud for blood
*
Such secrets they take
With them to the grave
We may never know
They tell no tales
Only dust exhaled
*
And what of those
Who's ashes drifted
Out to sea
Burned in fire
On funeral pyre
*
Life's little secrets
Held close in bony hand
Stone cold breast
We fall from the nest
Like leaves
