I glanced around my surroundings. Teenagers laughed and ran to their friends, said their hello’s, basically being normal kids. Yet, an eerie feeling was stagnating the air.
“Have a great day honey! Call me or dad if you need anything!” My mom called out to me, waving. I waved back, smiling awkwardly.
“Bye! Love you...”
I sighed and made my way to the entrance, careful to avoid running into anyone. I looked around for the front office but a guy popped into view with a plastered cold stare onto his face. He didn’t seem like the other guys around here.
He seemed...
Bitchy.
“You’re new here right?” He placed his hands in his pockets. I nodded my head quickly, nearly resembling someone having a seizure. I mentally slapped myself for making a fool in front of a cute guy already.
“Uhh yeah... my name is (Your Name)” I stuck out my hand for a handshake. But, instead, he formed my hand into a fist to give me a fist bump. I raised an eyebrow.
I won’t question it.
“Sweet! I’m Felix Kjellberg,” Felix chuckled. I laughed in return, I wasn’t sure how I should feel about him as of right now but I wasn’t going to be rude. He could be a possible friend and I was in no place to deny friends.
“Hey so I need to go to the office right now and grab my schedule before the first hour, but maybe I’ll catch you later?” I started to walk to where I assumed the office was and his face didn’t falter. He held that same, somewhat plastic, smile.
“Of course, don’t let me hold you up. If you need anything, I’ll be around. Just ask for me! I know everything you need to know about this place...”
As he walked away I thought about what he said. He said it so strangely.
“I know everything you need to know about this place...”
Does he mean the school?
The town?
I wasn’t sure.
As I walked through the main office doors I bumped into someone, her stack of papers flying everywhere.
I sat on the floor, scurrying to pick up the papers and apologized profusely. I looked up to see I ran into an older woman, someone that’s a staff member. She shook her head and laughed, also picking up the papers.
“Ohohoho it’s alright dearie! I wasn’t looking where I was going, don’t worry!”
Before I was able to speak, a boy dropped down and started to pick up papers too. I was surprised and stared at him in shock.
He's super cute...
He had dark, wavy hair, chiseled jaw, and striking dark brown eyes.
Guess you could say I’m in love.
Wait what?
Anyway, I couldn’t stop staring at this insanely cute guy. I think he could tell that I was staring at him because he gave out a nervous chuckle when meeting my eyes. I looked away, “thank you...”
“It’s no problem.”
The three of us stand and I glanced at him once more. He had his eyes on me, he’s smiling too. I smile back but look away again.
“You two better get to class,” The woman said. “Especially you Mark, or else Mr. Morris won’t be too happy.” She walked out of the office, without giving Mark a chance to say anything.
I sighed, feeling exasperated by that whole encounter. I make my way to the front desk and ask for my schedule. The woman sitting at the desk nods and says she’ll print it off. I turn and see Mark talking to another teacher. I decided to idle for a moment, the looks of this guy peaks my interests. He and I lock eyes and it from his expression he seems interested too. But when he focused back on the teacher, the curious glance turns into a disturbed look.
I wonder what they’re talking about... almost everyone has that exact look plastered onto their faces.
I would almost be worried if we were friends, and sadly we’re not.
Once I received my schedule, I pass by Mark. I smile at him and hope it reassures him. I doubt it though, especially since we’ve barely spoken.
For the rest of the day, I continued to wonder why everyone around the school feels so unsettled. And I can’t bother to ask anyone because maybe it’s not my business. Either way, maybe I’ll find out sometime.
Little did I know that “sometime” meant during lunch that day.
