presenting the final prototype for our @ukagakadreamteam ghost jam 2020 submission: it’s no other than your friend and boy Hop!
what are ghosts? ghosts are desktop buddies with functions that can get pretty sophisticated, but for the most part they talk to you, and in return, are able to be interacted with!
our hop is a little friend that comes in two beautiful shells (skins), with dress-up options as well as neat conversation features.
this project is merely a proof of concept for something that will continued to be developed over time; but if you’re interested, the download link for his first prototype release is under the cut! more about suggestions, bug reports, and all that other good stuff is down there as well~

so, what is there to be expected in this little friend? this ghost contains:
- random dialogue ; he will talk to you unprompted incrementally. his comments range from general and random to comments specifically fitting the real-life date or time (including certain holidays!)
- two shells ; shells are essentially skins. the two collaborators (casey and li) have included their own unique artstyles in this ghost- hop’s master shell (illustrated by li) has customization options, while hop’s chibi shell (illustrated by casey) is adorably petit! choose which style of hop suits you.
- dress-up ; right click his master shell to access a clothing menu, where you can assign him accessories to your liking! as of this release he has 10+ accessories, with the plan being to add more outfit and decoration options with future updates.
- conversation functions ; you can access a menu through double-clicking- in it you can choose from an array of options, including asking him to say something random (a standard ghost function), to asking for music suggestions, to giving gifts! the main highlight of the prototype is the ability to suggest topics for hop to share his opinions on out of a random selection. want to get all of his thoughts on certain subjects? keep talking to him!
- pokemon facts ; tucked into random dialogue points are allusions to certain pokemon... if their name is colored, that means it’s clickable! click to have hop elaborate more on that given pokemon, and let him show off what he’s learned during his professorial studies!
- music suggestions ; hop will suggest songs to you upon request! (psst, hey, maybe... send in songs you think hop would like or listen to and why, and maybe they’ll be included in a future release?)
- future updates ; we intend to update hop with additional dialogue, customization options and more in the future. updates will be uploaded to a host, and you’ll be able to access these updates through hop himself. that means you don’t even have to manually download future updates, hop will notify you of any outstanding updates and install them himself after asking!

known bugs/WIPs we are working to address:
- white outline clipping on various accessories when layered. to be fixed with future-proofing
- future-proofing layers for more elaborate outfits to be made.
- .nar opens to chibi shell instead of master shell upon first boot, but who’s to complain about that? he’s so cute!
with that being said, please keep in mind that this is, while as polished can be, a prototype that will be continually built upon. feel free to contact us for any thoughts, comments or bug reports, as inane as they may seem! we appreciate any feedback, we poured a lot of love and elbow grease into this kid for the jam, and intend to make him even better beyond it.
