a/n why the FUCK did this take so long to write jesus christ i'm so sorry for the Very late submission.
just remember to breathe, freminet, lyney had told him minutes prior before slinking off with a sly wink.
they like you, so there's nothing to worry about, lynette added quietly, they'll like it, don't worry. you're good at what you do.
archons, his hands wouldn't stop shaking. all he wanted was to find his diver's helmet, shove it unceremoniously onto his head and crouch in the corner, unwilling to respond or talk to anyone. archons, he knew his rehearsed speech would go out the window - how did lyney do this all the time in front of hundreds of people including their archon? all he wanted to do was to dive into the ocean and find the deepest parts, ones that he was sure even neuvillette didn't know about.
"freminet?"
fuck.
"hello," his voice came out a lot higher than he intended, and he cringed internally, coughing into his fist, "h-hello..."
fantastic start, freminet, you bombed it.
"lyney said you wanted to give me something?"
fantastic.
fan-fucking-tastic.
he made a mental note to (accidentally) break the drainage pipes near lyney's room later.
(a little bit of little brother revenge never hurt anybody, after all.)
he hated everything about this.
he hated how clammy his hands were getting, how they were trembling, how he could feel his pulse fluttering as his hands not-so-subtly hid the gift behind his back.
"freminet?" you peered around him as he squeaked and shuffled away, turning away from you with a small frown.
very subtle.
"i did," he muttered, fiddling with the ribbon, clearing his throat again, "i did want to, ah, give you something, but-but it's-it may not be to-you may not like it."
just remember to breathe, freminet, his brother's damned words echoed in his brain as he cursed under his breath (easier said than done).
"i-"
they like you, so there's nothing to worry about, they'll like it, don't worry. you're good at what you do.
okay.
he could do this.
"i wanted to give you-the-"
well fuck.
"freminet, take your time," you beamed, slightly amused.
he really needed you to stop looking at him like that.
"you're not good for my heart," he muttered finally, reluctantly giving in and taking his hands out from behind his back, timidly showing you the mechanical penguin in your colour.
"aren't i?" you hummed, gently taking it and letting it rest in your hands (it fit perfectly, you noted), "i think i'm perfectly good for your heart."
"it shouldn't be beating this fast," he muttered, "it's not normal."
speaking of lyney...
"do you want me to teach you how to accidentally break a drainage pipe?"

my dear flower,
i do apologise for not being able to make it this year, the mission seems to be taking up far more time than i anticipated. i think of you every day while i'm gone, and my only wish right now is to be back at home celebrating the holidays with you but alas, the grand master will have my head if i do, and i know that neither you nor i want that for christmas this year.
speaking of christmas, what did you want? i have a gift planned already, and i've made sure that it's to your tastes, but is there anything else? naturally, the first gift is a surprise, so i unfortunately cannot tell you just yet, but i'll be waiting for a response from you.
your love,
kaeya
you sighed, draping an arm over your eyes as you read the note again.
i do apologise for not being able to make it this year.
he's not going to make it this year.
you huffed again, lying back onto the couch with a small frown. your gaze flickered over to the small gift on the table.
i do apologise for not being able to make it this year.
you couldn't really remember a time where kaeya and you hadn't spent time together during the holidays, even before the two of you had gotten together. he had always managed to find some excuse to find his way to your side during the festive season.
"idiot," you muttered under your breath, sitting up, "he's an idiot."
you made your way into the kitchen, where the two of you had promised to spend this year together.
"evening, flower," a sultry voice murmured lowly into your ear, snickering as you jolted in surprise.
"you-"
"surprise~" kaeya grinned, resting his hands on your hips and turning you around.
"you-in the letter you-"
"i snuck out," he murmured into your ear, "told the others to lie to diluc."
"you're an asshole," you sighed.
"what, you think i'd really leave you home alone for christmas?" he scoffed in mock offence, humming as he drew you closer, "no, i'll be home for christmas, my dear."

a/n GOROUS SO FUN TO WRITE??? SINCE WHEN???
gorou was a strong general who, when asked by his junior officers and soldiers, could quickly come up with solutions. gorou had fought many battles, gained the trust of sangonomiya kokomi. gorou had defeated and defended the island, snapping at anybody who dared pet him (you were a begrudging exception).
and yet, here he was.
"general gorou, defeated thousands but defeated by tinsel," he muttered bitterly, struggling to unwrap himself, "i'm sure the news would have a laughing stock."
"i'm sure they would."
he let out an undignified yelp, jolting as his ears twitched, whirling around to face you.
"general gorou, startled by their lover coming up behind them unknowingly, despite their guard being up at all times."
he let out a low growl as you neared him.
"how long have you been standing there?!"
"a while," you hummed, coming to a stop in front of him and the corners of your mouth twitching up.
"don't laugh," he muttered bitterly, "it's not funny."
"it is," you grinned, "just a little."
"i wanted to surprise you," he huffed, burying into the crook of your neck and no his tail was not wagging, "stupid tinsel..."
"surprise me, how?" you hummed in mock thought, "i'd say seeing you tangled up in tinsel was enough of a surprise for me, i shudder to think of what other surprises you have in store for me."
"it's not funny, [name]!"
"it is, though."
"it's not!"
"are you going to help me or not," he grumbled, gripping to you tighter.
"i think i like you like this," you hummed, "i dunno if i should..."
"[name]!" he pulled away from you with a snarl.
"alright, alright," you relented, biting back a laugh, "don't get your tail into a twist, i'll help you, general gorou."
he grumbled as you led him to a softer patch of grass, gently turning him around as you grabbed one end of the tinsel, seeing his tail twitch in irritation.
"hurry up."
"there's a lot of tinsel," you shot back, unravelling him, "how'd you even get yourself into this situation, anyway?"
he fell silent, his ears tugged back.
"gorou?"
"wanted to surprise you," he was not pouting, "the-i asked her excellency if i could help out and-she... she said that i could decorate the island and-and our house and so-so i got out the tinsel but i didn't know it was going to be that much and i also didn't know that the box on top was also tinse-"
"gorou, breathe."
he exhaled, stumbling slightly as he turned again.
"when are you going to be done," he muttered bitterly, raising his arm to let you unravel the tinsel.
"i'm almost done," you huffed out a laugh, finally pulling him free.

"welcome," wriothesley smirked, "to my humble abode down here in hell."
"i'm honoured," you stated wryly, "thank you, oh grand duke."
"no problem, my dear~"
"i can't believe you asked me to come to prison for christmas, what an awful christmas present."
the man laughed, following closely behind you up the stairs with a sly grin, shrugging off his fur coat as he sat down in his chair, sighing tiredly.
"i can't believe i have to stay down here when it's christmas," he muttered, massaging the bridge of his nose, "it's so boring down here."
"what, you don't have anything to do down here?"
"it's so lonely," he lamented, "that's why i brought you down here with me, [name], so we could do things together... but if you don't..." he gazed at you under his bangs, smirking victoriously as you relented.
"can't you go back up to the surface?"
"what, and leave all of them by themselves for christmas?" he scoffed, "have you no manners?"
"just a suggestion," you backed off, wandering aimlessly towards the closet in the corner of the hall, his icy eyes following your move as he placed his gauntlet down with a groan.
"there's nothing in there, you know." a beat. "and you need keys to open that."
"well do you have the keys, oh grand duke?"
he smirked, standing and sliding the chair back.
"and if i said i did?"
"then i'd ask you, kindly, grand duke, if you could open the closet so we could if it is, as you say," you hummed, turning around and letting him move past you, "truly empty."
he feigned surprise as he yanked the door open unceremoniously, grinning wolfishly.
"well, would you look at that, it's a christmas miracle."
"jerk," you huffed, taking out the wooden box, "you planted this here earlier."
"your proof?" he huffed, gazing down at you with a raised brow.
"because nobody else is allowed up here, minus the very fortunate - or unfortunate, i should say - criminals, and sigewinne," you listed, "and i'm not quite sure how any of them would be brave enough to manage to sneak a board game in here, find a locked closet, steal your keys, proceed to lock it again and give your keys back."
"you gonna arrest me?" he muttered lowly, fingers twitching around his metal handcuffs.
"just shut up and play," you scoffed, the corners of your lips twitching upwards slightly as you strode past him and placed the board on the table, "if i win, i take you up to the surface with me?"
"i'll do you one better," the duke smirked, sitting in his chair cockily, "if i win, you'll let me do whatever i want with you. after all, you're my christmas present, and there's quite a few things i have planned this year."

a/n why did i make this so long hello
it wasn't a secret to anybody that he had not grown accustomed to human traditions. he wasn't used to having to get along with other people, to not look down on them like they were filth beneath him. he wasn't used to having to smile at others who passed, managing to brush it off as a weak grimace.
nahida had, like many other things in regards to him, noticed this.
"what are you planning on doing for christmas?"
he frowned.
"chris-what?"
nahida's wide eyes told him that he had maybe said the wrong thing.
"christmas!" she repeated (as if that would suddenly make sense), "the holiday!"
"sure," he nodded along.
"it's what the lights are for," she noted, the corners of her mouth twitching upwards as he visibly scowled.
"those eyesores are for christmas?"
"mhm!"
he shifted.
"and what are you supposed to do on... christmas?" he tested it out, unsure if he liked it, "why is the entire city decorated with lights and why is it so..."
"festive? bright?" she suggested, "happy? enjoyable?"
he huffed, turning away and tipping his hat.
"it's an eyesore."
"did you not have christmas in sneznhaya or inazuma?" she tilted her head curiously.
"not that i recall," he huffed coldly.
"i think you should talk to [name]!" she suggested brightly, cheerfully sliding off her swing and skipping away, leaving the former fatui to visibly deflate, sighing and muttering under his breath.
"[name]," he stated when he found you, "come with me. don't be around these eyesores."
"eye-" you faltered, stumbling as he dragged you away by the wrist, "where are we going?"
"away from the eyesores," he stated curtly, "they're too bright."
"you have a hat to shield your eyes from the-ow!" he flicked your forehead with a scowl, dragging you to a less-festive area of the city. "wanderer?"
"don't laugh," he began slowly, gazing down at you, "what are you supposed to do on christmas?"
don't laugh.
"well, what do you want to do?" the corners of your lips twitched upwards at his perplexed expression.
"what do i-what?"
"there's no set rule for what to do," you hummed, "apart from gifting things to each other, but it's not necessary, i don't think."
"it's... not?" he stated slowly.
"in my academic opinion," you smirked at his groan, "it's merely optional. but i'll spare you the lecture."
"what do i want to do..." he muttered to himself, eyes trailing over your figure.
he wasn't quite sure what he wanted to do. he had heard snippets of conversations from the other akademiya students about what they were doing, but he wasn't exactly thrilled about the idea of going to the nearby bar and drinking. nahida - the god of wisdom, wisdom! - told him to speak to you, and you told him that it was up to him?
"all i want to do," he decided, "is to get away from these god-awful lights."
"they're not that bad!"
"they're an eyesore, [name], an eyesore."
he huffed at your pout, picking you up by the waist and tucking his other hand underneath your knees, ignoring your startled yelp as he started flying to the top of the divine tree.
"there's even lights up here..." he scowled down, "how did they even get up here?"
"a lot of effort," you muttered, gazing down as he gently placed you on a branch. his gaze softened as he let his gaze linger on you.
"what do i want to do, huh..."
"spend time with me?" you joked, grinning at his sudden silence, "didn't know you were such a sap."
"i have a reputation to keep," he huffed, flicking your forehead, "but... it's actually not that bad. should we do this again next year?"

a/n not sure if her ghost has a canon name... but i just called him boo tao since i'm pretty sure that's the fanon name? iirc?
she beamed widely, hands on her hips as she stood on the rock. her red eyes glowed as she tapped her feet impatiently with a small pout on her face.
"where are they..." she huffed, "surely they can't be that far, i told them to come here half an hour ago!" she gazed petulantly at the pine tree in the centre of the field. "hurry up, [name]..."
minutes passed.
"there you are!"
she puffed her cheeks indignantly as you appeared, panting as you leaned on a tree.
"merry christmas?"
"merry christmas," she mimicked, jumping down from the tree and pointing at you, "it's been hours!"
"it's been 45 minutes..." you muttered defensively, straightening up, "so? why'd you invite me to one of the most haunted places in liyue?"
she smirked.
"haunted?" she tiled her head innocently, "who said this place was haunted?" she motioned to the tree. "it's festive!"
"hu tao..." you muttered, pointedly staring at boo tao, "there's a ghost next to you."
"so?" she huffed, "doesn't mean that wuwang hill is."
"so why'd you bring me here?"
you scowled as she grinned in delight, grabbing your wrist and dragging you closer to the tree, reaching inside to grab a small lantern.
"ta-da~"
you stared down at the small glowing object in her hands, gaze softening slightly.
"normally, we write our wishes and prayers here during the lantern rite," she began, "to honour those who fell during the archon war. so i figured we might as well write our wishes on lanterns too during christmas!"
she held one out to you.
"is this a new tradition?" you hummed, taking it from her as she laughed.
"maybe if it's successful this year and rex lapis blesses our wishes," she beamed, "ooh, or maybe the adepti!"
"i highly doubt xiao has any interest in entertaining us..."
you prayed he wouldn't appear at the sound of his name.
(he didn't, thankfully. maybe he was celebrating christmas at wangshu inn.)
"watcha gonna write?" she bounced on the balls of her heels giddily, peering over your shoulder.
"what are you?" you shot back, turning away with a small scowl.
"i want next year to be a good year for us both," she hummed, "oh, and for more customers."
