Adulthood/College things that people never talk about but should? Pt. 1

1. Buying a single pan or pot is impossibly difficult amd expensive. Its $30+ for a set of pots and pans or $15+ for a sjngle pot or maybe a set of pans. It's stupid. Want to replace your single specific pot or pan? Impossible.

2. It's very hard to eat healthy on a small budget.* I am a college student so I mainly I only get to shop at on campis stores. These stores have a monopoly so they can charge us out the ass for simple things. But the way they charge can be insane. A slice of pizza, a greasy carb filled food option is $2.50 and probably the cheapest thing you can get on campus that will fill you up. But salad, a healthy lunch wrap can be $5.30-6.30 depending on where you shop, how much meat is in it, and if you get dressing. Gluten free items are usually 3 times more than regular items. Soda is $1.30-2.30 depending while water is $2.20-3.00. These are a few examples but good ones. Colleges claim they focus on the health of their students but then make it finacially difficult to eat healthily.

3. Stores are just as bad but overall cheaper than on college campuses. But as an RA I can only work 10 hours outside of being an RA. At minimum wage that means I'd only make $72.50 per week before taxes. About $52.30 after taxes if one assumes I'm losing 25% in taxes. This doesn't give me a lot to work with when it comes to food (off campus) clothes, car insurance, gas, ect.

Conclusion: Basically I had to explain this to my grandfather who doesn't understand why I can't eat better in college, or why I would need a job. Luckily my parents still help me out when I really need it. But not everyone is as lucky as me. And it's just insane how much eating healthy food, cooking your own food, or just living is incredibly difficult financially.

*I am an RA and I get to stay on campus for free and I get a meal plan of $1550. Pretty nice since those things are all I have to pay for in school. It's basically a $10,000 scholarship. BUT with this amount of money for food spread out over out over the semester I only get about 11 dollars a day or about 80 bucks a week to spend on food/cleaning supplies. I can add more if I am able but that's not always a luxury one can afford.
