Some gifs because I think there are far too few posts about Samuel Roukin <3 (and with glasses!)
Now if you were to ask me who the most intriguing character in Turn is, I would argue my case STRONGLY to John Graves Simcoe.
First of all, he is this odd mix of Lawful Evil, Neutral Evil, and Chaotic Evil. He doesn’t always go out of his way to hurt everyone or anything, though he has made some... questionable killings. He tends to crush people who are in his way of getting something he wants. (I.E Hewlett or Abe) And typically he wants either Anna, or death to rebels. God help you if he thinks you’re a spy or even worse: Culper. Still, he doesn’t harm children and follows some form of moral code, if a bit shaky and treacherous.
Despite this evil, however, he shows a softer side on occasion. He may appear creepy while doing so, but usually is genuine with his attempts at compassion. I say usually because he did try to frame Lola for killing Hewlett- well, if it ended up happening that way. This doesn’t dismiss him playing with Thomas or doing his best to make a move on Anna earlier in the show.
“Mercy is weakness, strength is truth.” This seems to be his main philosophy. And I would say it holds true with just about everything he does.
He is VERY smart, and a damn near perfect fighter. However, his main flaw is always underestimating his opponent. Every time I can remember in the show, he’s never been outmatched in combat, but because he’s been surprised at his opponents strength.
Not only that, but he tends to be rather arrogant when he believes himself to be right. When he gets his mind on an idea, he can see nothing BUT that. Typically he’s correct, but on the occasions where he’s wrong, he doesn’t correct himself until stronger evidence comes to light.
And finally he’s just visually intriguing. He has mannerisms that just make him so different from everyone else in the show. He’s very monotonous with expressing himself, and yet has this odd lofty voice that sounds like he’s talking to a child most of the time. He doesn’t see himself as a monster that kills; that’s simply his job; and he acts as a gentleman away from his duty. He taps his fingers against glasses and other objects very frequently, like a tic he has while he’s thinking. And how could I mention Simcoe without talking about his witty comments? I mean come on, the man is a legend when it comes to one liners.
Finally, his entire arc is finding out he’s a sub.
Thank you for reading my essay.

Juliet & John || Falling Apart
I’ve wanted to create a video for these two for forever. I just couldn’t find enough content for them. So I just smashed the content I could get together... As always, any advice or comments are welcome and appreciated!
We were running in the dark, we were following our hearts And we would fall down and we would slowly fall apart We would slowly fall into the dark
