It was mid-august, and also happened to be a particularly "special" day, at least according to Roy Mustang.
Riza had never thought much of her birthday. All of her life it had gone uncelebrated, and with the way her life was going now she simply acknowledged the fact that she'd made it another year without some kind of fatal accident and moved on.
But oh, no, not this year. Apparently since her Colonel had finally found out the day she was born, he had to make up for all of the years that he hadn't, so he planned to take her to the beach.
Hawkeye would never admit it; but despite the fact that she was a strong swimmer, she had a slight fear of open bodies of water.
Riza was someone who had always been in control. Her childhood was hardly that; she'd practically raised herself, and was rarely in any position where she was subjected to some kind of powerless state, so when such a situation did occur, she wasn't very fond of it.
The ocean was a pit of omnipotent strength and she couldn't stand entering it.
Yet glancing over to see that dopey grin on Roy's face made all of this anxiety worth it. A small smile of her own formed in response to his, their eyes meeting for a quick second before hers returned to the road.
"We're almost there, sir." She informed him.
