Maeglin [Silmarillion design 7/?]

- possibly the biggest victim or villain question in the legendarium considering his family life was... kind of a disaster - I like to hc this is sometime after he came to Gondolin, he is already gravitating towards the 50 shades of black kind of fashion his father preferred but not quite there yet (oh man, but I really want to draw Turukano now) - another hc: his hair is not quite as curly as the rest of the Noldo side and their traditional hairstyles simply don’t quite hold as nicely, even though Idril tried.

Just.. looking pretty I guess? Not very jewelsmith-y, I know. I’m sorry.

Him and Legolas could probably really bond over not knowing who their mother is. (But in the meanwhile I am going to happily exploit that fact for all it’s worth)

- hi scribbly braid detail you can only see if you squint

- is the fact that the character can actually pull off yellow (holy shit) reason enough to dress him in it because as far as I’m concerned yes

- he was meant to have straight hair but then this happened and I don’t know anymore. Ah well?

- In all honesty I don’t think the star of Feanor would be something he’d choose to wear, at least not after... everything, but I wanted to put somehing there

So. The family tree for House of Finwe I’ve worked out on the side for my spontaneous Silmarillion designs project... thing. Final-ish version.

(originally known as: ‘heyyy let’s check if black Fingon and ginger Maedhros are possible on one family tree! 8D’, but then my nerd side kicked in. Also known as: ‘hmm, I wonder how many dark-skinned elves I can pack into this and remain canon-compliant’)

The “rules” for this:

1) black Fingon 2) everything explicitly mentioned in canon has to stay as it is 3) go nuts, but coloring has to be somewhat believable/possible in real life

- I originally just googled a Noldo family tree to use, but ended up moving half of it around - Tolkien’s apparent obsession with random blue-eyed blondes won’t let me have any fun - We’ve already covered how I had to cheat with Aredhel I believe... I’m going to go ahead and assume Indis and Elenwe are related and Anaire gets a matching albino gene from somewhere else. - ...which, accidentally, puts a whole new layer of mommy issues on the whole Maeglin - Idril situation. Whoops.
