an attempt at drawing almost every named character in the silmarillion (minus a bunch of Men characters bc i didnt have designs for them, as well as assorted minor elves like salgant or elenmire + the valar and most maiar cuz im still redesigning them) 😙

been really busy these past months but i worked on this on and off in-between (you can see a process gif here!!). since ive got a bit of free time for now, ill try to get back to being more active :D sorry for disappearing out of the blue again but happy almost half a year... wait wdym we're almost halfway through 2025 already...?!?! ToT

#art #chalk pastel #acrylic gouache #silmarillion #maeglin #isnt it cool how you look at yourself and you see his work and the marks of his tools and his reflection instead of your own #and you wonder if anyone else can see what's so obviously monstrous about you and if they can see him when they look at you too #i drew him holding close to his hatred and isolation. the monster looms over him but he holds it close and never lets go.#and its not as simple as letting go of it and being free of it. it would still follow him. but holding tightly to it #is a different kind of choice. abiding in the halls of the king with smiling face is something i think about a lot and i had to #include the idea of being returned from torment believing that all of this will be granted to him and will be his to possess #that he can look upon those that he hates and smile knowing (believing) that he will prevail over them #that he will finally possess and control everything. when he already has no small amount of control and favor and goodwill #but thats not enough for him. because there is something (one) he wants that he cannot have. that there are things outside of his control #and those that he hates walk free and loved.#he was an object to be possessed by a man who had to possess and have something completely and he became a man who needs to have #mastery and possession over everything to convince himself he is no longer the one possessed #and what a way to reinforce never ever being free of being a thing to be possessed than by being reduced to nothing before morgoth #horrible doomed elf. good night maeglin.
