Today’s theme for “Color Me Valentine” is Broadway Babe! So, I made an outfit inspired by Elphaba, considering I already made an outfit based on Galinda for another challenge.
I actually love both characters and I think they compliment each other well. I also love their songs in the musical, especially the last one “For Good”, but this set was inspired by the showstopper that is “Defying Gravity.” The emotion in that song... I get goosebumps every time.

Day 1 of the Instagram challenge “Color Me Valentine” organized by colormemagic. The theme: “Make It Pink”.
I decided to create an outfit inspired by Ariel’s pink dress outfit, mostly because the big pouffy sleeves of the Mach & Mach dress reminded me so much of the sleeves on Ariel’s dress. The fork/dinglehopper ring was chosen for pretty obvious reasons. The Judith Leiber clutch was a lucky find and it reminded me so much of the seashell in which Ursula trapped Ariel’s voice that I had to use it. Good thing it doesn’t clash with the rest.
The title of the set? It’s from the lyrics of “Beyond My Wildest Dreams” from the Broadway musical “The Little Mermaid”.
Today’s “Color Me Valentine” theme is Royalty, so I decided to create an outfit inspired by Arendelle’s (former) queen, Elsa!
I think you can pretty much see how Elsa inspired this outfit, but there is some extra “Royalty” to this outfit... The designer of the dress, Jenny Packham, is a designer that has been often worn by the Duchess of Cambridge (Kate Middleton), an actual royal! The Judith Leiber clutch is from a collection she did for Frozen 2, and I thought it matched the outfit’s aesthetic perfectly.

Today’s theme for “Color Me Valentine” is “Sweets & Treats”! As you can probably tell, the inspiration is Mickey’s Ice Cream Bar.
Every time I go to Walt Disney World, I need to have an ice cream bar. My trip isn’t complete without one. So, I took inspiration from the wrapping paper of the ice cream bar for the outfit, and was glad to find a necklace and some ears representing that delicious frozen treat.
Today’s theme for “Color Me Valentine” is “Make It Red”! I will admit that, at first, I didn’t know what kind of outfit to do. I had already done outfits for characters that I associate with the color red not that long ago. As I was thinking that, I turned to my nightstand and looked at the cover of André Leon Talley’s recent memoir, “The Chiffon Trenches.” I remember saying to myself, “Well, he’s lucky, he’s already in red.” And then it hit me! Why not do an outfit inspired by what Mr Talley is wearing on the cover of his book?
Now, before I explain the outfit, I just want to say that if you love fashion and want to know what it was like for a black man in that industry back in the days, I highly recommend this book. Andre Leon Talley has a way with words that makes you feel like you are standing right there with him as he tells you about various events in his life, just like when he told us about the VIP events he attended back when he wrote “Life with André” for Vogue, which quickly became my favourite part about Vogue when I read it. He made us outsiders feel like we were part of the in crowd.
Anyway, on to the outfit. So, on the cover, he wears a red cape over a crisp white shirt with a straw boater hat. Since I couldn’t find a red cape, I opted instead for a dress with a cape effect, and use a fake collar underneath, to give the illusion of a shirt being worn underneath. The boater hat I found looks a lot like the one he wears on the cover. I went for Manolo Blahnik shoes as the shoe designer is a dear friend of Mr Talley, and I opted for the ones with the buckles because I’ve seen him wear that red cape with Roger Vivier shoes, who is known for his buckle shoes. The heart clutch is because love and its importance in his life is a recurring theme throughout the book. Finally, the earrings. He doesn’t wear any on the cover, but I felt a piece of jewelry would perfectly complete the outfit, and because Mr Talley values the growing number of black creatives in the fashion industry, I decided to choose earrings designed by an African-American designer.
The title? It’s the last sentence in his book and it’s so perfect, I just had to use it.
Today’s theme for “Color Me Valentine” is Super Kawaii! So I decided to create a Tokyo Disney worthy look using ONLY Japanese brands.
As you can tell, my inspiration is Alice in Wonderland (which is also the title of the set in Japanese). The brand Secret Honey does a lot of Disney-inspired clothes. Some are full-on costumes, others are more casual clothes that are perfect to visit Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea. I would say this Alice dress is something in between, but it’s just so cute (or kawaii), that I couldn’t resist. The bunny-themed shoes are a perfect fit for the outfit, as is the hair bow. I went with a white handbag with hearts to represent the white roses Alice tries to paint red in the Queen of Heart’s garden. I also adore that brand of handbags, and got so many compliment for a blue handbag I bought from that brand. The necklace represents Dinah, so I HAD to include it!
Fun fact about Japan is that you can find a lot of Disney products outside the parks and the Disney Stores. You have no idea the amount of Disney stuff I bought when I was there, not to mention how cute all the merch is over there.
🐶💗 Love Yourself 💗🐶 Love yourself like Dug loves you! And he just met you too! I adore dogs! And there’s something about Dug that just puts a smile on your face. This completes the 2021 color me valentine challenge!!! I found that I could do 12 posts in a row! The thing I love about this challenge is that it was pretty short. I still can’t believe that all the art I made for this challenge were loop animations!!! Can I be called an animator now? It’s always been a dream of mine. #ColorMeValentine @colormemagic https://www.instagram.com/p/CL5SUkUDE6Z/?igshid=170eyiaq2qgrb
