The brave souls were coaxed by the Fogo Azul NYC Bateria, an all-women Brazilian Samba Reggae drumline who bombastic beat ushered in the eager and not so eager participants. Some photographers went all out to capture images patiently waiting in their hip-waiters in the frigid water. The 96th Annual Christmas Tree at New York Stock Exchange at Wall Street, yes 96th year so one year before Washington Square Park Christmas Tree and eight before Rockefeller’s famous tree captured at night from Wall Street. The first tree lighting in 1923 coincided first national tree lighting in Washington DC by President Calvin Coolidge on December 24, 1923 to promote the use of electric Christmas lights and subsequently electricity as a safe alternative to candles on trees. Very apropos for Brooklyn’s Coney Island the birthplace of Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, it’s a Nathan’s Hot Dog flanked by her condiments mustard, relish and ketchup@posing for me prior to the plunge.
