science tumblr? why does my lampshade have blue shadow at the top and orange shadow at the bottom?
i’m looking at it wondering if it’s real… but the camera agrees with my eyes.
the light source is a frosted glass shade with two layers of plastic filter, a wide blue and a narrower green at the bottom, superimposed on half of the blue.
BONUS: I genuinely had no idea about coloured shadows until these union flags were brought out! (08/06/2022)

You also know the drill if I say no/don’t grant the permission, it means NO. It is preferable to use Tumblr’s built in reblogging function on the site at the very least as it will link back to the original.

Looking at Lighting
I have been doing lots research on the web revolving around art installations, projection mapping, and hip-hop lately. While I was doing this, I came across an interesting lighting technique that I passed across to Will and other members of the camera team. The product of this method is coloured shadows, which I thought would provide great visuals in a studio environment.

Having looked into the idea, I believe that it is totally achievable. All we would need is a three point lighting set up and some coloured filters.

All of which we have access to from the university. Having said this when I was researching into it many websites said to use coloured light bulbs but I feel filters should achieve the same effect.
However, after suggesting the idea I was not welcomed with much enthusiasm and so it is likely they will not look further into the technique. Additionally, after having a think, the chances of proceeding with this lighting method are slim as I do not think it will fit within the current style of the piece. Also, due the high technical ability it requires it would warrant considerable testing beforehand to ensure we would be able to do it. I think it is a shame that we will not be able to recreate these coloured shadows, but I am sure we will come up with many interesting techniques we can utilise.
