colourfulglue prompted:Â Ooh, ok, so - Kadam... they have a couple of kids (young - like 3ish) and the kids always dip their biscuits in their dads tea and steal little sips even though its hot and yeah... basically adorable fluff :) Please and thank you! :D
a/n: using the british type of biscuits (aka cookies, not the dinner american biscuits), warning i have never had a british biscuit i only know that they are like american cookies. i also normally don't write kids.
"You know, there was a time where getting up voluntarily at five in the morning was inconcievable to me."
Kurt smiles as he flips the pancakes, glances over his shoulder to see Adam in the doorway, sleep-rumbled and grumpy, Becca hanging off one leg. At the table, Jeremy hiccups with delight and hurriedly shuffles off his chair to run to his sister.
"Cakes!" he exclaims and Becca turns wide, awed eyes onto Kurt.
"Cakes?" she repeats, hopeful.
"Cakes," Kurt agrees and Becca and Jeremy give a happy shout as one as they hurry back to the table. "Pancakes and sausage," Kurt adds to Adam. "And maybe biscuits, if everyone's good."Â
He and Adam share a smile - living with Adam has incorporated some Britishisms into Kurt' everyday life, which really just means Kurt accidentally uses words like loo and bugger more often than the average American.
"It smells delicious," Adam says as he moves over to Kurt, tugs him into a hug and a kiss. "I'm going to make some tea."
"Not coffee?" Kurt teases.
"I'm British," Adam says with affected dignity. "I'm too good for coffee."
Kurt laughs. "We'll just pretend that you don't hate the taste then, shall we?"
Kurt keeps an eye on their children, who are chittering to each other in their own fast, loud half-speak. Becca, not yet three, can manage long sentences in a way that makes Jeremy, almost four, a little dizzy, but they manage to discuss the relevant issues at hand - namely, pancakes - with ease.
"You drink enough coffee for the both of us," Adam asserts, starting their tea maker. Kurt found out early in their relationship that Adam is a bit of a tea snob - Kurt's never seen him drink anything loose leaf gourmet teas in the ten years they've been together, and whenever they're in the co-op they shop at, he openly sneers at the bagged teas.Â
The tea begins to brew and Adam comes back to Kurt, wraps his arms around Kurt's waist and tips his head into Kurt's shoulder, exhaling.Â
"It's too early," he mutters against Kurt's skin.
"You say that every morning," Kurt says, concetrating on the pancakes, keeping an eye on the sausage.Â
"Well we can't all be obnoxious morning people," Adam says, presses a kiss to the tender spot behind Kurt's ear that makes his shiver.Â
"Daddy!" There's a tug on Kurt's pant leg and he looks down to see Becca there, Jeremy attached to her free hand. "Cakes?"
"Almost done," he assures her. "Papa, you want to distract them while I finish up?"
Adam sighs, relaxes bonelessly against Kurt for another second before he gathers himself. "What do you guys think about some early morning coloring?" he asks, squatting down to their eye level.
They cheer in unison, race off for their coloring books and crayons. Adam's tea finishes brewing and he has just enough time to get it in a mug before their children come racing back in, settling in at the table with multitudes of crayons clutched in their fists, coloring books open and ready.Â
Kurt finishes the pancakes and sausage in peace, and though they're deep into the coloring world when he sets them down on the table, it's only seconds until Becca and Jeremy are hurriedly demolishing them, pieces of pancake and sausage flying.
Kurt spends half his time eating and the other half cleaning up sticky, syrup-stained fingers and faces. Adam helps, watches with amusement as Kurt fusses, sips his tea.
Once they're finished, Kurt loads the dishes in the sink to clean later and his children stare up at him with huge, shining eyes.
"Biscuits?" they plead, almost as one unit.
Kurt sighs, melodramatically put-upon, and gets the biscuit tin out of the cupboard. Adam gets up as well and refills his cup from where the tea-maker is keeping it hot and grabs a few biscuits himself as he settles back in. He tips one into his tea and Kurt makes a face.
"I don't know how you can eat it that way," he says. Adam grins at him, eyes crinkling.
"Everything tastes better with tea," he asserts.
Becca watches as he tips it back in again and then, quick as a hummingbird, dumps her own biscuit into Adam's tea, retreating just as fast. Adam and Kurt watch with surprise as she stuffs the tea-soaked half of her biscuit into her mouth and makes a face.
"It's hot!" she exclaims around half-chewed biscuit. "Ow!"
Adam grins. "You've got to blow on it, darling," he explains. He demonstrates with another one of his biscuits, dunking it in his tea and blowing on it gently before taking a bite. "See?"
"Can I try some of your tea, papa?" Jeremy asks, wide eyes fixed on Adam's mug.
"You're corrupting them already," Kurt accuses as Adam moves to Jeremy's side and carefully hands him the mug.Â
Adam laughs. "Better tea than coffee," he says. "Careful, sweetheart, it's still--"
"Ow!" Jeremy exclaims as he takes his sip. He considers the mug, then forcibly takes another gulp. "Ow!" he says again, still surprised.
Adam sighs. "Darling, our children are attracted to dangerous things."
Becca nips in and steals the mug from Jeremy, who immediately goes teary-eyed.
"Becca," Kurt says warningly and she cowers a little.
"I'll give it right back," she promises Jeremy. "Just wanna sip!"
"Hot," Jeremy says solemnly and Becca nods as she takes a sip.
"Ow!" she says, delighted.
Kurt covers his face with his hands. "I blame you for this," he tells Adam.
"Maybe for Becca," he agrees cheerfully. "But Jeremy's got your genes, you only have yourself to blame for him."
"I can always blame Rachel," Kurt mutters darkly.
"Rachel does have a habit of making bad choices over and over again," Adam agrees and Kurt giggles into his palms before lifting his head and grinning over at Adam.Â
"I'm so telling her you said that," he says gleefully.
Adam's face is adorably panicked. "She'll skin me alive," he says. To the kids, who are passing the cooling tea between them to take sips, he adds, "Auntie Rachel is scary, isn't she?"
Jeremy nods seriously. "She talks really loud," he says. "And sometimes fast so I can't hear her."
"She keeps trying to get us to sing with her," Becca adds. "But Jer cries so we don't hafta."
Kurt giggles again, because he remembers the last time Rachel had come over to visit and her pouting sulk as she'd left - he hadn't know the kids had managed to one-up her so completely. He feels a little proud.
Jeremy takes a sip of the tea, makes a face, then passes it back to a bemused Adam. "'s not hot," Jeremy explains. "No fun." Becca nods in agreement, nibbles at what's left of her biscuit.
Adam begins to laugh and Kurt groans again. "It's possible we're horrible parents," he says.
Adam leans over to kiss him. "I'd say we do okay," he says and takes another sip of tea.
