One of the modules (BA Design @Goldsmiths) I took (early) last year was Risograph Printing - Popular among the zine and self publishing community due to low production costs, Riso prints come with a simple colourfulness that makes them seem easy to make.
Appearances can be deceptive, though, as Risograph printing is not an easy technique to learn, let alone master. To create the perfect print requires finding the balance between your design and the way it will turn out best in print.
Digital prints look so dull next to Riso prints with its bold and intense colours. Often limiting your colour palette to two or three colours fits perfectly to this technique for printing and learning what images work well.
Hii, I literally just found your blog and I wanted to reach out. I have been writing for more than 7 years and I have never gotten to the point where I finish one piece of writing. I have a whole document with 25,000 words and 19 chapters, which I still have a lot more to add to and I just don't know how:/ I just never get to finish anything I start! Any advice? Also, I hope you're having a great day:)
oh my god i’m so sorry for the late answer! i hope you’re staying safe too! :)
Firstly, I have a lot of incomplete documents myself but that’s because i don’t get the time to finish them. My advice would be that you write what you want. If you know what you’re going to write in one scene, write it down as notes.
Even if it’s not worded properly and are just random notes, do it. You said you had a lot more to add, so i’m assuming you’re not having any problems with your plot point. If you’re going to put in a car crash, for example, take a piece of paper and write down how you want to word that scene. Be like, “i want my characters to say this,” or “i really need to use this word when i write this scene,” or “this is the exact line i’m going to use,” and more.
when you’re done with most of them and have a covered a major part of your story, think of your word goal. do you want it to be too long or too short? or maybe you have a number in mind.
it’s very good that you’re writing around 1k words for every chapter, too. many a times, writing too much in one specific plot point makes you miss getting to the actual good stuff, the point of the chapter. If i’m writing a car crash and i use way too many words writing about what happened before it and describing the setting and getting off topic, i might never be able to properly fit in the car crash.
which is why i advice you to make notes. when you’re finished with your notes or are atleast satisfied, take a good sunny day, make yourself a cup of coffee, open that unfinished document and simply start writing! you notes will write the chapter for you. they’re like writing prompts but personalised. this will also prevent major writers block.
sometimes, your environment may also be keeping you from finishing your story. if you think that’s the case, i would tell you to discover and explore where and how you would like to write and what kind of atmosphere you want to be surrounded with when you do. if you’re writing a happy scene, put on some upbeat songs. For sad scenes, maybe close the curtains and put on soft sad music. this will help you really get into the part you’re working on.
if you need help or want suitable prompts, please inbox my prompts blog, @thinkofmehigh where i post writing prompts :)
i hope this helped! stay safe, keep writing.
