What if it’s because the new guy has Makoto feeling intimidated and doesn’t tell Haru that he wants to stop swimming because of it and Haru ends up finding out that Makoto quit the team and totally freaks out and goes off to find him or something

nah i think if Souskue would pick on anyone it'd be Rin, like, he's been a major jerk and the iwatobi group isn't the only one's he's left behind four years back. Plus swimming for Makoto has always been about his friends and i doubt he'd let those feeling waver because of a competitor. If anything he'd accept defeat and learn from it for the next time he faces them? Makoto's probably the bravest out of Rin, Haruka and himself. Plus he's the captain. Makoto's also got great responsibility.
