Although of indifferent quality, this photograph shows pilots of No 118 Sqn’s ‘B’ Flight at Coltishall on 18 July 1943 in front of Spitfire VB EP549/NK-Q after an escort sortie over the Dutch coast. It had been flown on this mission by Flt Lt John Shepherd (rear row centre), who had shot down an Fw 190 and shared a second with Sgt Clive Anderton (rear right) to become an ace (C Anderton)
