Seattle Road Trip: Day Three

(Thursday 16th February)

This morning was our last day in Seattle. We planned to go to an authentic American diner called Lost Lake which is open 24/7. It was recommended to us by one of the barristers at the Starbucks, the night before. And boy was it an excellent recommendation. Between the five of us we had ordered a feast, it was a breakfast fit enough for Kings. I ordered avocado with a serving of sourdough toast and a side of sautéed mushrooms.. something I would typically order back home in Australia, it was delicious. We sat for a while, chatting about our plans for the day while soaking up the American vibes.

We then made our way over to Columbia Tower where we were able to view the Seattle skyline which stretched out as far as the eye could see, with buildings of all different heights towering over the lego people and cars on the street. It was a sunny day without a cloud in sight. We spent a little over an hour taking photos and soaking in the city of Seattle.

We then thought we would head down to the Original Starbucks, so then began our Starbucks hunt, we passed at least 7 Starbucks before we got to the Original Starbucks and only had walked a couple of blocks, they were everywhere. Luckily, today the line was not so long so we were put through quickly and while there I bought myself a copper tumbler with the original Starbucks logo and writing on it. I then purchased a Soy Chai latte and enjoyed it with a monster cookie that was the size of our heads. We sat out the front of the cafe listening to a local busker and were surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the market. We then made our way back to the car and on the way I took advantage of the authentic yoghurt store and had the most delicious chai spice yoghurt ever.

We made our way to the car and headed on our way back to Abbotsford. We drove along the busy highway all the way down to our destination, the whole way home there was constant chatter, we were all so ecstatic from the past couple of days. We then arrived at the Canadian border and handed over our passports and were asked many questions all in rapid succession. The officer then proceeded to ask us how much we thought we had spent in the US. All of us were caught off guard for this question as we did not realise we had to have knowledge of this, to be honest I was trying to forget how much I spent in Seattle. We then told the officer that we spent around $200 each and were asked to pull into the car slot and head into the office. We were then questioned again about our intentions heading into Canada and where we were from. We were held at the border for an hour while they rummaged through our suitcases, make up bags and dirty laundry.... no stone was left unturned. They then had sniffer dogs check the car and all our suitcases. We were itching to get out of there and were all annoyed at the disrespect shown by the officers. After what felt like an eternity they called us back into the office and the lady explained to us that we were disrespectful to the officer questioning us, didn’t take him seriously and hesitated when answering quesitons. This was honestly a load of BS and we were all fed up by then. We jumped back in the car and Party in the USA was blaring in the car, how ironic.

We made our way back to the dorms and had planned to go grocery shopping seeing as we wanted to take advantage of having a car. So we all hopped in and drove to the Independent Grocer where we went for a massive shopping haul. We got back to the car and unwittingly I placed my wallet on top of the car while chatting to some friends. We then hopped in the car and left until about half way home I came to the realisation that I had left my wallet which had my passport in it on top of the car. So we backtracked to the grocer, searching around the dark carpark and asking workers in the centre if anyone had handed it in. No luck there. I then walked along the streets to scour the roads and my friends headed back in the car driving along the roads trying to find it. Within about 20 minutes my friends in the car came screaming down the street waving the wallet, “We found it!.” Thank god! I was so extremely relieved I started jumping up and down and smiling like a mad woman while hugging my friends. I had just missed a massive ordeal that could have easily been avoided. Teaches me to never do something so reckless again. After this ordeal we all headed back to the dorms and I got some much needed rest after such an eventful, tiresome day. This comes to the conclusion of our three day Seattle roadtrip getaway, which is one of the most eventful and exciting experiences I have had while on my study abroad journey.

I woke up at 4 am today. On a random whim, I followed @hannahmaniacal to @daybreakersea ...although I was an hour late...and missed the yoga class...and went to the wrong building! . But! . We had our first sober rave. Nothing but mushroom tea, kombucha, dance music and a random saxaphone dude doing a conga line. . She asked where I'd been and we talked healing and training. I'm leaving soon to train bjj on the beach and come back with my head and heart clear. She is prepping to teach kickboxing and yoga. We are both proud of each other. . The CBD was the first to go. The party got shut down due to some angry old white dude pulling the breaker on the entire floor (true story) and we closed with appreciation and a sound bath with Tibetan singing bowls. . When 9 am came, Hannah and I were changed women. She headed to NWJJA for her self care and I went my way to prepare and pack. . Self care and selfishness is important.
