Today I was asked why medics use role players so much during training. Role playing allows a learner to assume the role or tasks of a job by practicing or simulating real working conditions. The objective of role playing is to learn, improve or develop upon the skills or competencies necessary for a specific position. Thanks 🎥 @ppa.int.medical The Combat Medic course ended today. We discussed TCCC, prolonged field care, and the importance of having his entire Special Forces team trained up prior to deployment so they were all profiencent medically. We discuss some aspects of mental toughness as well as making that transition from a soldier to a civilian. Chris was also a teammate of Staff Sergeant Matthew McClintock who was killed in action just over a year ago in Afghanistan. Matthew died while protecting his teammates, doing what he loved, on the field of battle. Show me your IFAK. If you don’t have one, GET ONE. It could literally save your life. I always carry an IFAK and I always have a trauma kit nearby. My IFAK contents; Bleeding: -IBD (Israeli Battle Dressing) -C.A.T. (Combat application tourniquet) -Dermabond (miscellaneous) Airway: -OPA (Oropharyngeal Airway) -NPA (Nasopharyngeal Airway), preferred, needs replacement Breathing: -Chest Seal @northamericanrescue (may use plastic packaging and tape) -14g needles (needle chest decompression) -one way mask (for mouth to mouth resuscitation) Shock: -emergency blanket Miscellaneous: -Trauma Shears (I use Raptor by @leathermantools - @sharpie for marking WARNING: Carrying all these will be useless if you are untrained.
