never been so glad to go to the doctor bcuz theres band rehearsal tmr morning still but i have an appt @ 8 so i cant go to the rehearsal for like 20-40 mins yk its easier to just go to the doctor this is such a W i dont need to wake up @ 6
guysss today i had a 2nd bass lesson cuz im soloing @ tmrs perfroemacne (literally just over 24 hours until it omg) + i didnt rlly have stuff for my solo + yk its improvised so it prob wont b amazing but anyway guys!! my band director said he wanted me to solo on every song i play this year!!! that means yk im alreayd soloing on one osng tmr (playing on like 1/2 the set tho so like 6 songs, the older bassist has the other 6) but basically that means i'll prob get to solo @ competitions (we go to 2 each year) and thats like all the big perfromances, but i think we go busking in december so i'd get to solo then too!! (in the past we've played in public but never for money, but thats just cuz of band level)
guys band performance in like a week this is so sick
ok so since i was just talking abt auditions i was looking up when the performances are and heres what i found:
performing for halloween (oct 31). technically concert band performance but we stil help cuz theyre new (tyhats what happened last year, but last year ppl were new to instruments but this year most ppl know instruments so idk if we'll help. maybe)
performing @ a resturaunt nov 11!!!!
open house dec 8 (idk what that is)
apparently combos will b busking over the holidays, so assuming i get in i'll get to play w my friends in combo b for money :)) and ppl ik in 2a for money (most ppl in 2a are grade above me, except fro the drummer (will be the 2 drummers in our combo switching out weekly))
we have band auditions for combo b on friday. which is also a day off so we have to come into school on a day off :(
still tho i already know band director allows retrys but i basically have a guaranteed spot bcuz
he already told me im gonna b in combo 2a (better than combo b, not as good as combo a (or idrk but its like ppl who would b in combo a but arent quite as good + rhythm section from combo b bcuz they need a bass + drums + the other bass/drums are in a diff combo))
he likes me (sigma)
i can. play bass. yea. + the required stuff (well not all of it but i still have a few days and bass parts are easy)
but basically we need to do all 12 major scales, which we had to do for juries (like auditions but they were pointless cuz u got in just by going to them) so i already know those, and blues scale in 12 major keys, which we did in the lesson, and is super easy on bass cuz scales on bass is just learn a few patterns that u can play across the neck + still get the right notes.
we also need to do some songs, and my part for them is either
a walking bassline (so just quarter notes walking up/down the notes in the measures chord but skips some notes to make transitions easier)
a repeating pattern (so one song (i think footprints) is like C G C E rest GC the entire song so its so easy
just. half notes. i literally just play 2 notes in the scale. its so fucking easy (just one song tho, st thomas)
technically tho theres like 8 songs i think and idk how to play st thomas and like 2 others however walking basslines dont take long for me to get cuz ive gotten better @ them. also its just playing quater notes and like if u mess up its not that hard to get back on track if u know the song
however we also need to solo on tenor madness. one chorus a written solo (which i was taught. but its not written, just memorized :c) + improv which i like never get to do. but its fun + today in the lesson my band director showed me a lick to play for one of the chords so that'll be easy
also the person who plays ur instrument in teh grade above will b there during the audition + me + the older bassist r friendly so thats good (everyone in our band kinda knows ppl in the grade above, some ppl r friends w some ppl)
