The story that Christian was always told as a child by the servants in the castle was that when he was born his beautiful mother was so full of love for him that her heart couldn’t take it and she perished there on the birthing bed. He grew up for many years thinking this, trying to keep his heart kind for his mother and impress his impossible father. It wasn’t until he was much older that the truth started to show, that his father wasn’t near human, and that his mother’s death was caused by complications that resulted in his father practically ripping into his mother with his bare hands to rip Christian from her. A demon Prince was nothing new to the underworld, but up here it was kept quiet and the families bloodline and power were able to continue on.
He’d gotten rather accustomed to the lifestyle, and even through everything turned into quite the kind and helpful Prince. He was allowed to do as he pleased, and when it was only the staff and family in the castle the sins were allowed to run free as they pleased. It truly was an ideal life for Christian, even without the loving hand of his mother along side him. The only real issue was that he had reached an age where his father was putting a lot of pressure on him to meet someone, to marry, to have children and carry on the family name and line of little princes and princesses. He’d spent months trying to get him off his case one way or another, but it seemed nothing worked, for he had planned an elaborate ball for him to try and meet someone and invited anyone of note from nearly anywhere that a letter could reach.
And so the demon found himself tying a black, nearly plague mask looking, masquerade mask around his head and straightening his princely suit. “Mother said she’d be furious if we laid with another and didn’t marry...” he mumbled to himself, “I should probably just pick a girl and stick with her... settle as it is...” he sighed, the door opening and his personal servant coming to collect him to make his way to the event.
Even though it was only an hour in Christian found himself more bored than he possibly could have imagined. Yes the dancing was fun, and he had beautiful girls practically getting thrown at him from every corner or the realm but good god it couldn’t have been a more stale party.
