Lucy had done well avoiding crossing his path. The Joker didn’t exactly keep it a secret where he was. This whole area of Gotham was full of his clowns. But she was careful who she worked with. In the end it had been a rookie mistake that brought her face to face with the man she hadn’t seen since she was a child. Lucy got caught pick-pocketing at a club that he ran some sort of dealings out of. A pissed off goon dragged her into the back, and there he was. She immediately recognized him - and not just because of the makeup, though that was certainly all too familiar as well. Nervous green eyes flickered between him and the door as she shifted her feet. There was a good chance he didn’t recognize her. It had been years after all, and she had dyed her hair. Just play it cool, Lucy. “Look, you can just take all the stuff I took back and let me go. I won’t come back.”

Cassie was nodding before she even realized it. “Yeah…same.” she mumbled. Honestly getting drunk sounded really good right now. Maybe then she could forget that she had just seen a man being shot in the head right in front of her. She seemed to started into realization and shook her head. Wide eyes looked over at the mad man who was still holding the gun. Her heart was still racing and ears ringing. The gunshot had been startlingly loud in the otherwise quiet area.

HIS BODY ACHES BUT JASON HANGS ON. he can feel the blood slipping through his teeth as his bones crack under the pressure of a beating. his body tries to move but once his restrains are thorn and away, he can’t move properly. he knows the clown is teasing him, the illusion of being free when he isn’t. jason had broken bones before and this? this was surely more than one. he feels his throat close, he can hardly talk when the clown speaks up, sending a shiver down his spine and Jason makes sure to spit red crimson to his feet; a dare, a challenge, tainting the perfect shoes of the clown with his blood. His mind is screaming though, he is aching for Bruce and he hopes he makes it in time. the robin looks through thorn mask and speaks through busted split lip, grey green eyes looking up with difficulty. “FUCK YOU, YOU FREAK.” and he means it this time. “I can do this all day, but you? OH boy.” and he coughs blood again through pained laugh because he doesn’t want to feel the angry tears threatening his eyes. please bruce, just come for me, he thinks rapidly. “you are fucked once batman gets here.“

Harleen already knew this may not end well for either of them. She had run through the list of every possible outcome, and all them had no favorable ending. Their relationship….whatever it was wouldn’t be allowed. Even her feelings she had developed for the clown prince of crime wasn’t allowed. She tried to avoid it, tried to keep their sessions strictly work professional based. Tried her best avoid all to show she was there for him. Yet her feelings conflicted the matter, and she cared more and more. Was concerned for him more and more.
Every session they had those feelings only intensified, but she’d never admit them…not really she was afraid. Although there were times she had blurted out what she felt in the heat of the moment. Whenever it seemed he was beginning to push her away the emotions she felt skimming the surface would roll from her tongue. She wouldn’t be able to hide how she felt for much longer. She wouldn’t be able to keep things professional for much longer.
But she tried….she tried she LOVED her job she wanted to help the unfortunate and broken souls like him. If there was one thing she was certain on it was that she HATED the Batman…for the fact the Joker always ended up on the receiving end of his wrath. And there was times…too many times….times that left her awake well into the night where he would escape Arkham….get into trouble with the bats….then she would run into him again at work. It was a repeated cycle. The Joker would escape, she would be consumed with worry….then days later he would be right back to where she found him..always looking worse for wear. She didn’t know how much more of it she could take.
Yet today their session seemed fairly quiet for once, she hadn’t even spoken yet. After all normally she would be the first to speak, the first to ask how he was. But she all she can bring herself to do was to scribble things down on her notepad, blue hues not yet glancing up to observe or ask what might be running through his mind. She made notes on the time their session begun, the date, who was here and, so forth before quickly back checking the notes she had on their previous sessions. Her mouth was about to open..words were about to pass…until something made her pause.
Did he speak?…..did she hear that correctly?. Did she imagine it?. Was she day dreaming again? Maybe she was home in bed and she was dreaming of this moment. No….no this couldn’t be right the Joker never spoke like that to her. Usually she was the one who failed to keep things strictly work related….even though she tried her best. Her best which always never seemed to be good enough. Hell she still wondered how she had managed to keep her job for this long…well, without her co-workers and boss suspecting of something amist. It just didn’t seem like it was in his nature to say such words..surely it’s all in her head, right?. After all insanity seemed to be contagious. And perhaps she was finally meeting the receiving end of it?. Maybe he did speak, but it’s not what she assumed she heard?. Maybe it’s that too?. Maybe all those sessions they shared were getting into her head and she heard the words she WANTED to hear, because they were the words she craved to utter herself?.
Either way her head raised, slender fingers that had been wrapped around her favorite pen relaxed and she swallowed back a lump in her throat. For once she didn’t know how to speak…it seemed to take her longer, than usual. Her head was spinning she was struggling to absorb the moment for all it was worth. It didn’t stop every word under the sun from fluttering around the back of her mind. Words she wanted to verbally express. But in the end all that she can manage to whisper was his just name; Joker. But her eyes spoke volumes, they speak, so much more for her…they show the depth of her reaction…her shock…her uncertainty…her confusion. Every emotion was crystal clear. It’s enough that she would go to hell and back for him. It’s enough that she would risk her job….throw her beloved job aside for HIM. If he had meant what he said…she would do anything for him ANYTHING.

“Ugh don’t remind me!” Lucy groaned, she honestly hated the smell of pumpkin and everything to do with it. “Momma decided to get everything that contained pumpkin, including those stupid candles and now we’re in pumpkin hell because of it”

“It’s not a game!“ Lucy yelled, waving her arms around in sheer frustration. ”Not everything is a game! Do you really think that? Are you really that delusional? Or can you be serious for one minute?“ Once she has started yelling, the words just kept coming. She let out a huff, arms dropping back to her side. The moment she finished she knew that she would probably regret snapping, but she couldn’t make herself look it. Instead she just stared hard, anger shining bright in her eyes.
