ICYMI: Watch David Letterman Come Out Of Retirement to Attack Donald Trump
you know actually community probably wont come back on and you know why? because pretty much everything that has been on for a while seems to be ending this year, at least that i watch comedy wise and i think its a sacrifice to the comedy gods for bringing arrested development back
i told you all to give up the dream

"When I came out of the womb, I remember the doctor thought I was hilarious."
Epic.
I went to another free to a comedy show tonight (this time not because someone was trying to trick me into dating them, this was just a normal free thing). Basically, the UCB Theater has a weekly free stand-up show (four stand-ups, I think about two hours total). I'd never been and I guess they don't announce or advertise the performers in advance in any way.
So in order, three of the four comedians (I forgot the name of the last guy pretty much instantly but he was very good) were Andy Kindler, Michael Ian Black, and Todd Barry. Which is fucking astounding if you're a comedy nerd. Though if I may be blase about two of these three gentlemen: I'm more familiar with Andy Kindler as Paula's boss from Home Movies (this episode featuring him is one of the best) and from occasionally being on podcasts than as a stand-up and let's just be frank here: I used in a sort of distant way work for Michael Showalter (we were in the same office complex and he would have me get his lunch) and Michael Ian Black came in once so...I mean I don't think he did anything funny the whole time he was there, but the sheen of seeing a Michael Ian Black for the first time was gone.
Todd Barry, however, holds a very special place in my heart as the beginning of my very strange, very strong attraction to men who are balding. Also I think he was probably one of the first "alternative" comics I was really into. Or at least the first one that I realized was part of this whole "alternative comedy" world--before then I definitely liked say...Mitch Hedberg and Greg Proops and obviously was very into the Kids in the Hall, but those people all have a presence outside of just the world of alternative comedy. I think you could pretty easily make a case for Todd Barry having that same kind of presence (which is to say: he was in that one episode of Flight of the Conchords), but again: I think Todd Barry might have been the first person I realized was a part of this network of people doing the kind of comedy I like.
But also I just have a really, really huge crush on him.
ETA: Fourth gentleman was Alex Koll. He was very funny! Also, it's so weird to watch these old Conan videos and realize that he's lost a fair amount of weight. I'm liking this rounder faced 90s Conan.
