Hyperlapse by Instagram
Instagram released a new time lapse app last week called Hyperlapse. I’m impressed…very impressed.
I’m not usually taken by the offshoot apps of the big social media companies. Facebook are now forcing you to use their Messenger app for instant messaging, but the functionality within that app is nothing exciting. Facebook also have tried to take on Snapchat twice now, first with Poke, and recently again with Slingshot. To my knowledge, neither of these apps have been successful. I would be very interested in trying Paper, Facebook’s separate newsfeed for press and media consumption. Unfortunately the app is only available in the USA for the time being. Instagram earlier released Bolt, a standalone version of the direct messaging function they tried implementing into their main app a while back.
Hyperlapse, on the other hand, is an incredible breath of fresh air and creativity. They have somehow combined time lapse photography with incredibly smooth image stabilisation to create an uncannily cinematic effect, purely on your iPhone. I admit, it’s a little hard to describe, so here’s a video I took of one of my favourite roads in Sydney to drive down (albeit preferably without the traffic!)
I’ve only played with the app a little bit, but a quick search on Instagram for the #hyperlapse hashtag will yield a wealth of fun and creative videos that people have made using the new app. Here’s one I particularly like…
