COMERG has developed a breakthrough extraction and purification technology.
The company’s Low Pressure Extraction technology combines novel extraction methods based on tetrafluoroethane (TFE). TFE has been often overlooked to extract a wide range of compounds since industry adopted CO2 and other methods for historical reasons. However, the benefits of TFE are established:
- TFEs are extremely inert and only decompose under extreme conditions, therefore leaving no residue.
- TFEs are produced in high purity on a large scale, and therefore are lower cost.
- Critical pressures and temperatures are much lower than carbon dioxide, allowing the construction of low pressure and low temperature apparatus, and can be more selective reducing additional steps need with CO2: resulting in significantly reduced Capital and Operational Expenses. Â - TFEs is a higher polar solvent than CO2 at lower pressures and the degradation of materials is much less, yielding much improved extraction results for sensitive natural products. Applications for LPE system include a wide range of large scale extractions: Â - Botanical extracts for the flavour and fragrance industry, and various drug bases.
 - Active Pharmacological agents, particularly of the sensitive variety.
 - Common and compound alkaloids and chemical intermediaries. COMERG is now considering strategic partnerships with companies interested in developing proprietary ingredients and capable of complementing R&D and IP capabilities with large scale distribution networks.
