My Comet Critter came today. My very first exporure to V-pets was this very pet, though back then I knew it as a "Cyber BabY" but when I looked up that name, the shell looked nothing like what I remembered. It was shaped like a piece of bread.... I remember it looking a lot like the one I just bought, except the shell was yellow and the buttons were red.

I know this pet isn't going to be very good. The plastic feels way more flimsy than other pets and the programming seems kinda dodgy. It looks terrible when viewed at any angle other than straight on... but I'm a sentimental fool that wants to have my first v-pet exposure in my collection.

Seems this one went by many names and shells. So when it comes time to draw this one, I'm just going to use my imagination to interpret it, because there's no way the critters on this v-pet is meant to represent "kid comet" on the box. I'm just chalking the box up to the bootleggy nature of this v-pet.

I am also not going run this one any time soon. I think the next oddpet I want to run is going to be the Dinkie Dino.

Holy hell, I've been trying to remember the name of this very specific odd-pet that my former step-brother lent to me a long time ago that was actually my VERY FIRST exposure to virtual pets. I was like instantly enamored and was heart broken when I had to give it back.

I remember the shell being yellow and kind of round, with UFOs and space stuff on it. And a lot of the sprites were ripped right out of Tamagotchi P1, I actually convinced myself I had just imagined it and it really was just a Tamagotchi, but it had more features and stayed in the baby stage for a lot longer. Today I think I've finally found it! Sorta!

So, like a lot of oddpets, this specific one seems to have gone by several names and come in different shells. The pic I just posted is the closest thing to how I remember it looking, except it was yellow. I with red buttons. I don't remember it being called a Comet Critter at all.... what I do remember is it being called a "CYBER BABY", which does seem to be a variant of this odd-pet. But all the listings how it in a weird, slice-of-bread shaped shell with awful looking buttons... also seems to go by "Cute pet" "cute cute" "Johnny Alien" and "Eggy".

I saw actual footage of the pet in action on an device with a chicken on the shell, and it's exactly how I remembered, with the UFO dropping off the egg. And the training animation involving weight lifting.

Because I'm weird and sentimental, and because I found some cheap listings, I ordered one.. the character on the box is a bit strange, being a cartoon baby and all, but I chalk it up to the boot-leggy nature of it all, and will interpret the design how I choose if I ever draw this one.
