"Hm?" Natticus suddenly perked up his ears and looked towards the front door, *What was that noise?*
"Did you hear that too?" A large floppy-eared Patamon peeked his head out from the hallway, "Gonna see what it is?"
"Yea, I'm expecting something," Natticus reached up to unlock and open the door and looked outside, "Awesome, there's stuff in my box! Hold the door, I'm gonna bring it inside." The gomamon grabbed the box with his flipper-like front paws, pulled it backwards inside and then pushed it into the living room.
The room was dimly lit, only the television provided some light. "Would it kill you get up and turn on a lamp or something, Milus?" Natticus sighed and pushed the box into the middle of the room. Milus was in his Blizzarmon form sitting cross-legged on a cushion in front of the TV. He was playing a video game, and Zarrus was lying down on the couch watching.
"Wow, don't you 'mons get up and help all at onc-" A sudden clunk of ceramic hitting the floor cut him off. "Huh?" Natticus walked around the box to see that he had hit a flower pot with it. The plant, with just a pair of leaves and a single flower, seemed to have been hastily placed in the pot, as the dirt and its bulb where now all over the floor.
"Haha! Who's the idiot who put the thing outside the box?" Zarrus laughed; he looked over the edge of the couch at the mess but couldn't be bothered to move from his spot.
"Ugh, guess now I have to clean this up," Natticus swept the dirt with his paw as best he could back into the pot over top of the plant bulb and then pushed it against the wall, out of the way. *Why would anyone leave us a flower? I don't even think you can eat these kinds...* As he pulled his paw away he noticed a drawing on the side of the pot; he turned it and discovered a yellow silhouette drawn in the shape of an Armadillomon over top of what he guessed was a giant chocolate chip cookie. "Looks like this is from BossArmadimon? Weird."
Zarrus rolled his eyes, "Bet he dug it out of someone else's garden and he's keeping the Halloween snacks to himself instead. Pft, typical."
Neither of the Gomamon had noticed Pumpkin the Patamon sneak his way into the box, "Hey this is really yummy! Mmmm~" In his orange-tipped paws was a piece of paper that had seemingly been soaked in something edible, "Milus! What's that, uhm, dessert spice called? This tastes kinda like it." Then, with the paper back in his mouth, he climbed out of the box and onto the couch beside Zarrus.
Without even a glance Milus replied, "You're probably thinking of cinnamon."
"Hey Pumpkin," Natticus said as he walked back towards the box, "that's probably a note we're supposed read, not eat. Was it attached to anything?"
The Patamon motioned towards a smaller flat, square box and took the remaining piece of paper out of his mouth, "Oh hey, there is words on it! I can't read it though. Here," he placed the paper in front of Zarrus.
"What're ya giving me this for, I can't read eith- HEY! This is for me! Look, it's got that letter from my name, no 'mon else has it," pointing at the 'Z' on the page with his claw; his orange mane bristled up as he continued angrily, "GRRRR! You Pata-fata, I bet this was a letter from one of my internet fans! And. You. ATE. It."
The winged beast cowered under his ears and let out a small whimper, "But-"
"Okay calm your tail Zack, he only ate the letter, not the gift. Here," Natticus said, then abruptly shoved the flat, square box onto the couch between the two, "Open the thing. There's an item here for me too, I can read my name on it but I can't figure out what it is."
He grabbed the half-eaten letter between his claws, held the mysterious item by the gift tag wrapped around it in his mouth, and walked back over to Milus. The beast warrior was staring intently at the game on the television screen, a snarl on his face as he ferociously tapped the buttons on the controller. This went on for a couple of minutes before he triumphantly shouted, "Yea! Haha, finally! Take that you idiot, don't think you can just use a ring out on me! Heh."
Natticus cleared his throat and handed over the letter. "Ah, right, yes, let me see... It says here 'For Zarrus, one pumpkin pie'. So yes it is for you Zarrus, good job on your reading!"
The patamon suddenly sat up, "Wha? For me too?"
Milus shook his head, "No no, this is a food item made from the plant in this world called a 'pumpkin', although I think there should be enough for Zarrus to share. Isn't that right?"
Zarrus had already ripped open one side of the box and roughly cut himself a slice of the pie with one of his claws. "Fine, whatever. Here," He cut the thinnest sliver of pie he could and handed it to Pumpkin, who literally inhaled it.
"Wooooow, it's so yummy, that cinnamon-y taste is in this too!" Pumpkin exclaimed happily.
Zarrus shrugged, "Eh, it's kinda like..." he trailed off for a few seconds before making a series of small clicking sounds.
"Zarrus, for once I have to ask you for a simple explanation," Milus teased.
"Yea seriously, none of the rest of us speak Dolphmon-ese," Natticus added.
"Well, I dunno the word for it! Okay, so. It's like, the texture? It feels like when you pick up wet sand in your paws-"
"But sand is crunchy," said Pumpkin.
"I said the texture not the taste, lemme finish and listen properly!" Zarrus growled.
"It's soft?" Milus asked.
Zarrus sighed, "No it's not soft. Fur is soft."
"Uhmmm. Oh! It's squishy, like me, " Pumpkin puffed himself up with a bit of air and patted his belly.
"No, that's just...I dunno, but that's not it."
"I know, I know! It tastes orange! Because both orange potatoes and pumpkins are orange and the same kind of smushy."
"Haha, I don't think that's the right word, but I can try helping you figure it out later, Zarrus. Just be sure to save me a piece too okay?", Milus laughed.
Beside him, Natticus was tapping at the spherical object with one of his claws curiously, "What is this? Any idea Milus?"
Milus paused his game and set down the controller before picking up the object and holding it in his hand. It was large and round with a swirling blue pattern. It smelled faintly floral. He tried giving it a small lick, "Hmmm, it doesn't seem to have any pbthht-ack!" He spat and quickly wiped his tongue across his furry arm, "Bleh. It reacts to liquid, my tongue started burning! I suspect that this is not intended for consumption. Why not try putting it in the bathtub and see what happens when you add it to a lot of water?"
Milus handed the object back to Natticus, who then ventured into the bathroom. "Alright, this should be cool to see, " Natticus turned on the water. After eating another piece of pumpkin pie, Zarrus and Pumpkin also went over to see what would happen.
"Hey, if it blows up the bathtub it's entirely your fault and you owe me a new place to swim," Zarrus said.
"But if you're supposed to put it in water, why would it be destructive? That's not a good selling point." Natticus replied.
While the tub filled up with water, Milus looked over into the box behind him. Seemingly unnoticed inside it was a small piece of food. Milus gave it a jab with one of his harpoon-tipped tendrils of fur and brought it up to his nose. It looked like a small chocolate-covered rectangular cookie, and smelled sweet. There was no note or letter attached to it so he decided to quickly devour it while no one was looking; he had to get the taste of the burning rock out of his mouth somehow. It was chocolate on the outside and inside, and with a satisfied chomp it was gone. Then Milus went back to playing his game as if nothing had happened.
Back by the tub, Natticus was turning off the water, as it was now mostly full, "I hate these binary faucets, the sliding dial ones are so much easier to use," he complained. "Okay, here it goes!" Sitting on the edge of the tub, Natticus tossed the object into the water. Immediately it started to bubble aggressively, with blue colours erupting upwards and spreading across the water.
"Wow! It's turning the water blue! Milus sure is brave, I think my whole mouth woulda gotten hurt if I tried to eat it," Pumpkin said in amazement.
"It'd be able to give you a super strong boom-bubble attack," said Zarrus, "If it doesn't make you explode first, heh."
Natticus slid into the bath tub and swam over the bubbling sphere; the fizzing swept against his fur and tingled against his skin, "Oh, whoa, what a funny feeling, I guess this is what it feels like to sit in a bowl of that orange pop drink." He dove underwater and grabbed the item in his claws, watching the colours swirl out of the sphere as it shrank down and fizzled out. Pumpkin perched his head on the edge of the tub as Natticus surfaced.
Almost immediately Zarrus erupted into a fit of laughter, "Bwahaha! You- Aha, oh geeze, this is great, haha! What a great prank!"
Natticus was confused, "What's so funny?" He lifted one of his flipper-like paws out of the water and watched as the water dripped off his fur, but the blue colour remained, "Oh. Haha. Very funny. Not. At least I smell nice I guess."
"Hehe, it looks like you digivolved into Blue-mamon! Your fur changed!" Pumpkin stared at the water, "I wonder if I can evolve into a blue digimon too? So cool!" Before anyone could object, Pumpkin dove into the bathtub with a splash.
"What's going on in here?" Milus walked in and glanced over at the two digimon in the tub, "Oh my, what a mess that thing made."
"Pumpkin, your fur looks like dead seaweed, it ain't blue," Zarrus said, "Ya look like a weird Tsukaimon."
"Aw nooooooooo! That's not faaaaiir!" Pumpkin pouted, "I wanna be blue too."
Milus sighed, "Alright, once you're all finished with the tub be sure to clean up! Let me know if you need some help cleaning that stuff off of your fur you two. I'm going to finish up my game."
Zarrus followed Milus back to the living room to watch the video gaming, and Natticus and Pumpkin decided to relax for a bit in the tub before cleaning up.
THE END.
