Dancing with Myself, a short comic in the style of Lynda Barry!
This was a homework project where we would research an artist and do a work inspired by their process and style, and I chose @thenearsightedmonkey !
I took a class with her the year before and had a blast, so it was fun to read up on her to make my own autobiocomic ✨

The images are two pages of a comic drawn in crayon and felt tip pen. There are 4 square panels per page.
Page 1 of the comic is as follows.
Panel 1: The title is Dancing With Myself by Wayan Williams.
Panel 2: A young girl with a suitcase happily walks to the left. Narration says, "I am staying with my parents and their friends in an apartment rented for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival."
Panel 3: A DJ with two red mohawks is scratching a record. Narration says, "This night, my pabbi is hosting a party and DJing in the living room."
Panel 4: The girl from before peeks out nervously from behind a door. Narration says, "But I'm feeling introverted and I retreat into my room to make art on my laptop."
Page 2 of the comic is as follows.
Panel 1: The girl lays down on her stomach and draws on a tablet and laptop on the floor. Narration says, "I enjoy the muffled DJing through the wall, but I put on my own music to vibe to."
Panel 2: The girl looks at her laptop with surprise and stands up, blue colours swirling around her. Narration says, "When ELO's 'Mr. Blue Sky' came on I feel a great and powerful urge to get up and dance!"
Panel 3: The girl is dancing, a rainbow flurry of colours around her dance moves. Narration says, "For the entirely of the song I dance without a care. No one can see or judge me so I dance any way I want!"
Panel 4: The girl lays on the floor again, smiling, and her mother comes in through a door on the right. Narration says, "Afterwards I am invigorated and get back to my art. My mum asks me after the party if I'm okay, I can only say Yes! I had a perfect moment with myself."
